Never Surrender - a GWS Giants AFL podcast

It's 'Never Surrender by the Squinters' (again) - the self-styled greatest (only) GWS Giants AFL podcast done by fans, for...mostly themselves (ie; fans) talking about an Adelaide game (again) that we won (again). You'd think there'd be less to talk about - everyone was GREAT! - but in fact there was, Bartman was in surgery, Needles was on the road and the Sparrow was at the game in the shade with the 60,000 other patrons. Good times, good chats. The lads get a lot of love.

So Mainstream AFL Media has again been lured into some very Squinters-shaped rox by our siren song. Here is a little orange amuse bouche from Sparrow and Needles about how the GWS Giants are going to have a rebuilding year by winning the flag in a scrappy fashion (thank-you Lawso and Coco) that we recorded it for the Sporting News, which may or may not be a thing, but the guy, Aiden, who asked us to do it had lots of Sporting News-type words in his email address so it could be kosher. Anyway, we dunno if his mob is going to post it or not - it might be too cutting-edge, too unfiltered - and we was going to leave it, but Sparrow leaned into Needles and put the hard word on him, so here it is!

Well. That really escalated, didn't it? Growler, calling for #LeonOut since 2010, got his man yesterday morning when Coach Cameron pulled the pin. This pod is for Lawso who immediately joined Coco on the ledge and started regretting what he had wished for, called for an emergency pod and then promptly made himself unavailable.

The Squinters were the first in Australia to know about it because, even as Growler was cleaning off the knives he's extracted from Leon's back, we got the head's-up from Coco in Pennsylvania - who patches into this emergency podcast of 'Never Surrender by the Squinters'* from his breakfast table - joining Sparrow and Needy for some unfiltered and uninformed reax (if not unoriginal, because for the second time ever, yet consecutively, record on Zoom was not pushed) and views.

This pod - the only GWS AFL fan pod - has (1) a recount of Sparrow's experience at the press conference hiding his pitchfork under his jacket - and (2) Sparrow's five point plan for GWS's giant success and flags in 2023/24, which is now a three-point plan because we sorted points 1 and 5.

THIS is the Never Surrender by the Squinters Alex Williams tribute pod. A GWS Giants AFL podcast inspired by Alex Williams, demanded by Alex Williams and dedicated to Alex Williams. Like they say Alex Williams, be careful what you wish for. He asked Sparrow why we hadn't dropped a post-Adelaide smashing revel in the glory. Sparrow said it was in the can. Sparrow was lying. Feeling guilty about his ... "mistruths", Sparrow was joined by Needles and Bartman live from Portugal to pontificate about the Adelaide game and give views about the Geelong game. We forgot to record the VERY, very funny Adelaide bit, we've only got the Geelong bit. It's not pretty, but solutions are suggested and accepted, Growler's 2016 call for #LeonOut, #theLeonGoodbye is accepted as a Statement of Agreed Fact and so the Squinters will be accepting coaching CVs, especially from would-be coaches who claim to be able to impart on a group of very talented footballers something, anything, vaguely resembling an identifiable "structure".

Ya know, if every man jack of the Squinters - particularly the ones who come on the podcast - weren't such downright outstanders, than recording the only AFL podcast about the GWS Giants made by Giants fans, to wit: 'Never Surrender by the Squinters', with the Squinters might be a bit of chore. ESPECIALLY after the shit we dished up against Richmond's magoos. As it was, Bubs, (still in the country)Coco and Needles had a lovely time - invective, swearwords, lols, bants, beers, clichés, problems identified...if not exactly solved, coach's heads called for and put back on again, then finishing a classic Squinters unauthorised, unfiltered and uninformed hot take on the Top 10 best (most important) and Top 3 Worst Giants since the beginning of time. Delidio, Ward, Daylight, Cornes - all named...but where? Not tellin'.

It's Episode 50! Half-a-century. The big five zero. Cinquenta (I think...Spanish listener let us know at [email protected]). It's good to know we got there in the end at the start of the Giants' first premiership season. It didn't begin with the win Bubs, Coco and Needles thought we'd get as we discussed seasonal prospects and predictions over cakes and gallons of French Press coffee at morning tea at Coco's mum's place, but when you listen to this episode of Never Surrender by the Squinters, the only AFL podcast by Giants fans FOR the Orange Crush, you'll stop cracking a sad in your cornflakes. The future is looking GOOD!* It's all good - that was the loss we had to have. Needles and Coco (in Canberra) in furious agreement. Lush.

*Assuming we kick straight from now on.

Yes, we have an opinion on Toby (everyone has an opinion on Toby, arewerite?) but the real reason to listen to this outstanding iteration of the AFL nation's favourite Orange-flavoured GWS Giants' fan podcast is the dulcet, sorely-missed tones of Never Surrender by the Squinters' hirsuite hero - ROMAC!

The Swans were great and bode well for the future, the Giants were better and are ready for today (and Saturday against the kittens and Jezza) and Toby, for like the 20th time (we're sensing a pattern - perhaps he doesn't like playing finals?), was very, very silly...again.

Still, AT THEM LADS!!! Let's get to work.

All it took to get a bit of the band back together was at least our 3rd greatest, bravest, defining wins in the club's history this season. We have developed high standards. It's probably going to be now and then from now on.

It's Never Surrender by the Squinters - the only GWS Giants fan podcast and we (Needles, Sparrow and the good Dr Nangs in his podcasting hat) got around some whisky, schhhhhhnaaaaaaps and chardonnay to tray and work out the HELL just happened at GMHBA1CF67 Oval and also where was Mal - who had promise dto show-up (nb; the man himself later apologised for his absence saying he had black eye, a cut on his foot, the house was covered in blood and he couldn't remember why. So at least he was on brand). Anyway, how good was it? Pretty friggin'.
