I would venture to say, we all desire peace in our lives. I would also venture to say that many panic when they could have peace. As we continue in our Acts series we come to chapter 12 with Peter facing a stressful situation, they are going to execute him in the morning. It should cause him major panic. But it doesn’t. It brings about the opposite result; peace. How can he possibly have peace in a peaceless situation? That is what we will attempt to figure out this morning in our message, “How to have peace when I should be panicking.”

One of the bigger roadblocks to growth we face are the lids on our life. What do I mean? Allow me to get a bit personal. I have been studying the Bible for 43 years and in those years many of the lids on my life have been exposed. There are things I learned from my family, from my ethnicity, from politics, from friends and teachers and from Satan dropping thoughts into my mind. But from time to time as I read and study God’s word, God’s word disagrees with things I’ve learned in my past. And that now becomes a lid that limits God’s best for me and others. So I have a decision to make, do I believe God and change my thinking or disregard what God says and continue living in the lid that limits me. We will examine this very thing in Acts chapters 10 and 11 in the life of Peter.

In Acts chapter nine Saul, who will one day be known as Paul comes to faith in Christ. Now mind you he was a vicious persecutor of Christians before this moment in time. God calls on a man named Ananias to minister to this new Christian named Saul. But Ananias is contesting the mission because after all, this is Saul the butcher of Christians. What Ananias is really wondering is, is Saul a fake or real Christian. It’s a good question and in this chapter we see what genuine article looks like.

As we jump back into the N.T. document called Acts we begin with the very important reality: There is only one Jesus and you cannot blend or attach Him to other systems of belief. In Acts chapter eight we see Samaria begin to be evangelized. This is great but it also carries a potential problem we see today, mixing Jesus with our old beliefs. We are seeing more of this today in our culture, but as followers of Christ we have to stay true to the true Jesus. So today we will see how the first followers of Christ stayed true to the true Jesus.

There has been and will always be a lot of discussion on what is my purpose in life. It’s a great question because our purpose gives us the reason we get up every day to face the world. Because anyone who has a great WHY can face any WHAT in life. As a follower of Christ we have many purposes but only one ultimate one and that is, reach the lost for Jesus. I have observed over the years in my life and in the lives of others that Satan can side track us to abandon our calling for a time. But I’ve also observed that Jesus gets us back on course to fulfill our ultimate purpose. Today we will look at Peter as Jesus gives him his life calling of being a fisher of men…the ultimate purpose.

As we all look back over our life I think we all see moments frozen in time where through some life situation, we received a desperately needed push. What do I mean by a push? Well, a push that kick starts us to do something we need to do. Something we had been putting off. Something that God calls us to do. Friends, we are no different that the early first followers. They were told to take this message of salvation outside Jerusalem, and they didn’t. They got stuck. So God uses the life of one man to push the gospel out into the world.
