Paul starts by recounting the history of Israel, emphasizing the relentless grace God showed Israel and the people relentless failed and sinned against God. He then talks about how God sent His Son Jesus Christ to free His people from everything the Law of Moses could not free them from. This is surely a stark contrast to the moralistic sermons the Jews are used to hearing. Such a message should cause the believer to rejoice and rest in the finished work of Christ, and tell others this relieving message of salvation.
