  • What Brings True Joy?

This week we'll ask, "What Brings True Joy?" Jesus gave His disciples the pathway to experience true joy throughout His ministry, and He gave them a vivid illustration of it the night before He went to the cross by washing their feet. • Do You Want to Be Well?

This Sunday, March 31, we will continue our Sermon Series called “Seven Key Questions” about life and faith in Jesus Christ. Last week we looked at the key question "Does God Really Love Me Just as I am?" This we'll meet a man who was ill for 38 years that Jesus asks, "Would You Like to Be Well?" It's a question that still matters for us 2000 years later. To be better prepared for worship read the story from [John 5:1-15](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+5%3A1-15&version=NLT). • Does God Accept Me As I Am?

This Sunday, March 24, we will continue our Sermon Series called “Seven Key Questions” about life and faith in Jesus Christ. Last week we looked at a question Jesus was asked, "What Is Most Important in Life?" This week we'll look at an ongoing struggle for many of us: "Does God Accept Me As I Am?" I mean REALLY!? Check out this story from Jesus that will guide us as we address this key question: Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” Watch the Video and more here:

  • What Is Most Important in Life?

This Sunday, March 17, we will continue our Sermon Series called “Seven Key Questions” about life and faith in Jesus Christ. Last week we looked at a question asked to His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” This week we’ll look at a question Jesus was asked, “What Is Most Important in Life?”

Mark 12:28–34 tells the story: One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” The teacher of religious law replied, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.” Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.

We’ve heard that we are called to love God and love people so often that we don’t really comprehend how radical this was when Jesus said it much less see what a radical call it remains in our lives as we seek to be perfected in God’s love.

  • Who Do You Say I Am?

This Sunday, March 10, we will begin a new Sermon Series called “Seven Key Questions” about life and faith in Jesus Christ. For instance, every person has to grapple with Jesus’ key question to his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” We’ll also look at “What Is Most Important in Life,” “Does God Accept Me As I Am,” “What Is Truth and Where Is God,” “What Brings True Joy,” and “What about Suffering.”

Matthew 16:13–18: “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ ‘Well,’ they replied, ‘some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.’ Then he asked them, ‘But who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.’”

The message is “Who Do You Say I Am?” It’s one of the key questions we have the privilege of responding to here and now and forever.

  • February 24, 2019 Sunday Sermon

This Sunday, February 24, we continue our 7-week sermon series, "A Firm Foundation." This week's message is "Make Disciples," focusing on Matthew 28:19-20, John 15:1-8, and Matthew 9:17 Making disciples of Jesus is the mission of the church. How have we gotten so off course? Things to consider: - A disciple is an apprentice of Jesus, someone who is actively training to be like Christ. - For us to make disciples, we have to first become a disciple! This requires living connected to Jesus and "training" to be more like him through prayer, worship, Scripture reading, serving, connecting with others, and giving. Training is usually kind of difficult and may even hurt a little but it's the only way to grow. - Discipleship is a way of life, not an extracurricular activity. As a result, disciples of Jesus make more disciples! Jesus just didn't ask people to believe, but to truly follow him and experience life transformation. - When Christ-followers become true disciples of Jesus, then revival happens. How might we allow God to use us at New Hope to create change? Are you willing? • Loving God with an Undivided Heart

This Sunday, February 17, we will continue our 7-week sermon series, "A Firm Foundation." In 6 days there will be a called General Conference (the only body that speaks officially for the UMC) and big changes related to our standards and practices on human sexuality will be debated and decided. While this is the presenting issue, the controversy goes much deeper; for instance, to the way we understand the authority of Scripture and the interpretation of God's Word. This weeks message is "**Loving God with an Undivided Heart**," and our key texts will be [Matthew 5:48; Romans 7:14-15; 1 Corinthians 10:12-13; Galatians 5:16-18, 22-25; Ephesians 2:8-10. ](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A48%3B+Romans+7%3A14-15%3B+1+Corinthians+10%3A12-13%3B+Galatians+5%3A16-18%2C+22-25%3B+Ephesians+2%3A8-10&version=NLT) One of the distinguishing marks of the Methodist movement is an emphasis on sanctification, which is the process of becoming more like Jesus over time. We cooperate with the Holy Spirit who makes a home in us to experience even more of what God wants to do through us by not only trying to please God, but training to please God. • When the Holy Spirit Comes with Fire

This Sunday, February 10, we will continue our 7-week sermon series, "A Firm Foundation." In 2 weeks there will be a called General Conference (the only body that speaks officially for the UMC) and big changes related to our standards and practices on human sexuality will be debated and decided. While this is the presenting issue, the controversy goes much deeper; for instance, to the way we understand the work and blessing of the Holy Spirit. This weeks message is "When the Holy Spirit Comes with Fire," and one key text will be Romans 5:5: "And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love." What does it mean that the Holy Spirit moves into our lives and makes a home in us? How does this fact impact every aspect of our one and only lives? How do we stay open to hearing from God about what's next for our lives and as we joyfully serve in mission and ministry here at New Hope?
