Iowa State's men's basketball team is coming off a successful 2023-2024 season, finishing with a 29-8 record and making it to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament. They were ranked as high as #2 in the AP poll, which is the highest ranking in program history. However, their offseason has been marked by significant roster turnover. Four players, including starting center Dishon Jackson, have entered the transfer portal. Freshman guard Nojus Indrusaitis also entered the portal after seeing limited playing time. On a positive note, the Cyclones have added Eric Mulder from Purdue Fort Wayne to assist with size and rebounding. Key players like Tamin Lipsey and Milan Momcilovic are expected to return and form the core of the team.   The Iowa State football team had a solid 2023 season, finishing with a 7-6 record and a 6-3 mark in the Big 12. They capped off the season with a thrilling 42-41 victory over Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. The offseason is currently focused on spring practice, as the team prepares for the 2025 season, which kicks off in Dublin, Ireland against Kansas State. Coach Matt Campbell has emphasized urgency and a lack of complacency during spring practice. The team is looking to replace key seniors and identify new leaders. They have added several transfers, including Yale's Tamatoa McDonough, Tulsa's Vontroy Malone, and UNI's Cannon Butler, to bolster their defensive line. The 2025 schedule includes home games against Arizona, Arizona State, and BYU, and six opponents who won at least nine games last season, presenting a challenging road ahead.
