  • Responding to Troubles
We can choose to respond in our own strength and wisdom to troubles from without. Or we can respond from within by the power of the Holy Spirit. • The Deposit of the Holy Spirit
How do we live on earth with an eternal vs. temporal perspective? We abide in the presence of the Lord. We fix our eyes on what is unseen. We live by faith, not by sight. We live in the fear of the Lord in awe, honor, and obedience of the Lord. We endeavor to please the Lord. We are accountable to the Lord for all that we do in the body so that we may one day confidently stand before the judgment seat of Christ. And, to do all that we need to be regularly filled with the Holy Spirit!

  • Light Troubles & Improved Vision
In verse 13, Paul says he believes like the writer of Psalm 116. He has the same faith. His thanksgiving overflows to the glory of God. Why? Because he knows that no matter what happens in the earth, God who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will hear us, save us, comfort us, and ultimately also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself!

  • Jars of Clay
Paul refers to our earthly bodies as jars of clay. The metaphor echoes Isaiah 64:8 and Lamentations 4:2. However, unlike the jars of clay referenced in the Old Testament, we now have the treasure of the glory of God in our earthly bodies.

  • Greater Glory - Part 2
The veil of unbelief that covers our hearts prevents us from understanding and receiving the Word of God. But as verse 16 confidently asserts, whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Jesus can remove the veil because all the fullness of the deity lives in bodily form in him (Colossians 2:9-10). And when the veil is removed, we behold the glory of the Lord!

  • Greater Glory - Part 1
At Mt. Sinai the Israelites saw the glory of God manifest in thunder, lightning, fire, a cloud, the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of God. But Paul states that the ministry of the Spirit is more glorious than what Moses and the children of Israel experienced in the wilderness. The glory of God is not characterized by physical manifestations. Rather it is being in the presence of God that results in our being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.
