Matthew 26:31-35 (NLT) On the way, Jesus told them, “Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.” Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” “No!” Peter insisted. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the other disciples vowed the same.

Luke 22:54-62 (NLT) So they arrested him [Jesus] and led him to the high priest’s home. And Peter followed at a distance. The guards lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter joined them there.

A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. Finally she said, “This man was one of Jesus’ followers!” But Peter denied it. “Woman,” he said, “I don’t even know him!” After a while someone else looked at him and said, “You must be one of them!” “No, man, I’m not!” Peter retorted. About an hour later someone else insisted, “This must be one of them, because he is a Galilean, too.” But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.

At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord’s words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.

I’m going to shake the shame by:

1. Removing its POWER, and GIVING it to God.

Romans 8:1-2 (NLT) So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

2. Hiding in the RIGHT PLACE.

Psalm 32:7 For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.

3. Accepting my FREEDOM in Christ.

1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL wickedness.

John 21:4-7 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. He called out, “Fellows have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.

2Corinthians 9:6-15

Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 2Corinthians 9:6 (NLT)

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 2Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)

For God is the one who gives seed to the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will give you many opportunities to do good, and he will produce a great harvest of generosity in you. 2Corinthians 9:10 (NLT)

Yes, you will be enriched so that you can give even more generously. 2Corinthians 9:11 (NLT)

1. I can give without FEAR.

2. I can GROW in my giving.

You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully. 2Corinthians 9:7 (NLT)

• Make giving a PRIORITY.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD Almighty, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you! Malachi 3:10 (NLT)

• Intentionally decide on a PLAN.

• Take the NEXT STEP in giving.

3. I can receive God’s overflowing ABUNDANCE.

If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving—large or small—it will be used to measure what is given back to you.” Luke 6:38 (NLT)

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NLT)

Luke 16:1-14

1.  I can use what I have to get what I VALUE.

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  Matthew 22:37-39 (NLT)

I tell you, use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. In this way, your generosity stores up a reward for you in heaven.  Luke 16:9 (NLT)

2.  My money reveals my CHARACTER.

“Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? And if you are not faithful with other people’s money, why should you be trusted with money of your own?”  Luke 16:10-12 (NLT)

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.  1 Timothy 6:10 (NLT)

3.  My money identifies who I SERVE.

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”  Luke 16:13 (NLT)

Unstrapped

“The Bottom Line”

See Matthew 25:14-30

1. I’m unstrapped, when I recognize it ALL BELONGS to God.

• All I have is a GIFT from God.

What makes you better than anyone else? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if all you have is from God, why boast as though you have accomplished something on your own? 1Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)

• I belong to God

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.  God chose him for this purpose long before the world began, but now in these final days, he was sent to the earth for all to see. And he did this for you. 1Peter 1:18-20 (NLT)

2. I’m unstrapped, when I MANAGE God’s RESOURCES well.

It is better to have little with fear for the LORD than to have great treasure with turmoil. Proverbs 15:16 (NLT)

The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ Matthew 25:21 (NLT)

3.  I’m unstrapped, when I FOLLOW God’s PLAN for my resources.

• HONOR Him.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD Almighty, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you! Malachi 3:10 (NLT)

• INVEST in the kingdom.

The servant who received the five bags of gold began immediately to invest the money and soon doubled it. Matthew 25:16 (NLT)

• Minimize DEBT

Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender. Proverbs 22:7 (NLT)

• SAVE

The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get. Proverbs 21:20 (NLT)

Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:5-6 (MSG)

Jesus knew that everything was now finished, and to fulfill the Scriptures he said, “I am thirsty.”  A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.  John 19:28-30 (NLT)  

1.  Love won… and GAVE us a WAY to God.  

For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.  Romans 3:23 (NLT)  

I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but you are dead. Now wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is at the point of death. Your deeds are far from right in the sight of God.  Revelation 3:1-2 (NLT)   

2.  Love won… when Jesus FINISHED His work of GRACE for me.  

Yet now God in his gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins.  Romans 3:24 (NLT)  

Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean;  wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.  Psalms 51:7 (NLT)

Love Wins

“…Through Jesus”

See John 13:1-8

1. Love wins… because God CAME to US.

Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. John 13:3 (NLT)

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and he will be called Immanuel (meaning, God is with us).” Matthew 1:23 (NLT)

2. Love wins…and I can ACCEPT it or REJECT it.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NLT)

3. Love wins… as Jesus LOVES me right where I AM.

So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him. John 13:4-5 (NLT)

He is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world. 1John 2:2 (NLT)

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—and how well I know it. Psalms 139:13-14 (NLT)

1.  Love wins… when I crave the things of God.

For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil (or the tempter) came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’(Deut 8:3.)”. Matthew 4:2-4 (NLT)

2.  Love wins…when I CHOOSE God’s way over MINE.

Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’(Ps 91:11-12.)” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’(Deut 6:16.)” Matthew 4:5-7 (NLT)

3.  Love wins… when I RELY on God’s PROMISES.

Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ (Deut 6,13.)” Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.  Matthew 4:8-11 (NLT)

“… when compassion begins.”

1. Love wins… when I see people through the EYES of Jesus.

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1Samuel 16:7 (NIV)

2. Love wins… when I feel with the HEART of Jesus.

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40 (NIV)

3. Love wins… when I touch with the HANDS of Jesus.

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39 (NLT)

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:12 & 14 (NIV)

Love Wins — “It’s Always Been Love”

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:7-8 (NLT)

“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Jeremiah 31:3(NLT)

1. Love wins… because God first loved ME.

We love because he first loved us. 1John 4:19 (NIV)

2. Love wins even when I don’t DESERVE it.

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:9 (NLT)

As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one.” Romans 3:10 (NLT)

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:6-8 (NLT)

3. Love wins… and I’m invited to join the CELEBRATION.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:9-10 (NLT)

For here is the way God loved the world—he gave his only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life. John 3:16
