Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” John 11:21-22 (NLT)

Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” “Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.” John 11:23-24 (NLT)

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.  Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”  “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.” John 11:25-27 (NLT)

How do we make the transition from our head to our heart?

We must Taste and see.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8 (ESV)

We must push past our fear.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

DIRECTION 

“No Solos”  

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.  Proverbs 13:20 (NLT)  

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.  Psalms 32:8 (NLT)  

“If you've gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends.”  Philippians 2:1-2 (MSG)  

1.  God’s direction gets CLEARER through godly friendships.  

After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David. From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn’t let him return home. And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself. Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt.   1 Samuel 18:1-4 (NLT)   

2.  God’s direction to be like Jesus is REFINED in godly friendships.  

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.  A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.  Acts 2:42-43 (NLT)  

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.   Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT)  

…a sweet friendship refreshes the soul.  Proverbs 27:9 (MSG)  There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 (NLT)   

3.  God’s direction is an invitation into deeper CONNECTIONS.  

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.   Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT)

“Trusting God’s Heart”

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16 (NIV)

What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.  Matthew 10:29-31 (NLT)

HOW LONG, Lord? Will you forget me forever? HOW LONG will you hide your face from me? HOW LONG must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? HOW LONG will my enemy triumph over me?  Psalm 13:1-2 (NIV)

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the LORD’s praise, for he has been good to me  Psalms 13:5-6 (NIV)

1. Trusting God’s direction brings me to a place of SURRENDER.

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.  Psalm 62:5-8 (NLT)

May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.  Matthew 6:10 (NLT)

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. 2.  Trusting God’s direction brings me to a place of REST.

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Psalm 23:1-3 (NLT)

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.  Psalms 23:4 (NLT)

3.  Trusting God’s direction brings me to a place of PEACE.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (NLT)

Don't lose your grip on Love and Loyalty. Tie them around your neck; carve their initials on your heart. Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for His voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all. Run to GOD! Proverbs 3:3-7 (MSG)

So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that in this world kings are tyrants, and officials lord it over the people beneath them. But among you it should be quite different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all. 1. I am CREATED with the DNA to serve!

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

God has given gifts to each of you from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God’s generosity can flow through you. 1Peter 4:10 (NLT)

2. God’s direction is to make a HOLY DIFFERENCE in others.

We can only keep on going, after all, by the power of God, who first saved us and then called us to this holy work. We had nothing to do with it. It was all his idea, a gift prepared for us in Jesus long before we knew anything about it. 2Timothy 1:8-9 (MESSAGE)

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT)

3. God’s direction is to serve others in LOVE.

For you have been called to live in freedom—not freedom to satisfy your sinful nature, but freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 (NLT)

The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12 (NLT)

QUIET ACTS of SERVICE.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. Hebrews 6:10-11 (NIV)

2. God’s “GO” is an invitation to be FREE from my PAST.

So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Genesis 12:4 (NLT)

What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun! 2Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

3. God’s “GO” is an invitation to put my FAITH into ACTION.

And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again. Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see. Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, LORD, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Psalms 143:8-10 (NIV)

1. Sticking it out… deepens my FAITH.

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. Colossians 1:11 (NLT)

2.  Sticking it out…let’s me experience God’s BLESSING in unexpected ways.

3.  Sticking it out…allows me to FINISH WELL.

1.  God gives stop signs for my PROTECTION.  

I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.  Jeremiah 29:11 (MSG)

2.  God gives stop signs to prepare me for the NEXT TURN.  

Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD.  Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.  Psalms 5:3 (NLT)   

3.  God gives stop signs to REST in Him.  

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.”  Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

John 9:1-11 (NIV) As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. "Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam.” So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, "Isn't this the same man who used to sit and beg?" Some claimed that he was. Others said, "No, he only looks like him." But he himself insisted, "I am the man." "How then were your eyes opened?" they demanded. He replied, "The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see."   

John 9:1  As he (Jesus) went along, he saw a man blind from birth.   

1. Because of Jesus…My struggle does not have to define me.   

Isaiah 61:1 (NIV) The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,   John 9:2  "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind  

John 9:3 "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.   

Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NIV) Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man.   

Ephesians 1:11-14 (NIV) In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.

2. Jesus came to heal what is most broken in me.

3. Am I willing to submit to God’s leadership?   

John 9:35-38 (NIV) Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" "Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him." Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you." Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.
