“Connecting to the Father”

1. Prayer connects me to a CARING father.

The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. Psalms 103:13 (NLT)

Cast all of your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1Peter 5:7 (NLT)

“So don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, Matthew 6:31-32 (NLT)

2. Prayer connects me to a FAITHFUL Father.

Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven’s lights. Unlike them, he never changes or casts shifting shadows. James 1:17

If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. 2Timothy 2:13 (NLT)

My God is changeless in His love for me. Psalm 59:10 (NLT)

3. Prayer connects me to a Father who’s CLOSE.

His purpose in all of this was that the nations should seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. Acts 17:27 (NLT)

• He is never too BUSY for me.

• He loves to MEET my needs.

• He is EMPATHETIC to my hurts.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:18 (NLT)

4. Prayer connects me with a POWERFUL Father

For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 (NLT)

2. Refocusing is TRADING my PRIORITIES for His. 

The people are saying, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.’” Haggai 1v2 (NLT) For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6v2 (NLT) 

3. Refocusing is RECOGNIZING that HE is with me.

Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. 2. Pursue God’s TRUTH above all else.

3.  RELY on Gods STRENGTH to fight in faith.

Refocus “Readjusting My Lens”

1. Refocusing my MIND means fixing my THOUGHTS on God. 

 “When he finally came to his senses…” Luke 15v17   

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  Philippians 4v8 (NLT)    

2. Refocusing my SIGHT means fixing my EYES on God.  

 And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.  Hebrews 12v1-2 (NLT)  

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10v27 (NLT)  Who can command things to happen without the Lord’s permission?  Lamentations 3v37 (NLT)   

3. Refocusing my STEPS means WALKING towards God.   

Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.  Luke 15v20b

May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ. - 2nd Thessalonians 3v5 (NLT)  

What does growing faith look like?  Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. I said to the Lord, “You are my Master!  Every good thing I have comes from you.” Psalm 16v1-2  

When my faith is growing...  

1. I find peace as I follow His lead.  

 “Taste and see that the Lord is good.    Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”  Psalm 34v8    

The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them!   Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods.    I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood     or even speak the names of their gods. Psalm 16v3-4  

2. I invest in Christ-centered relationships.   

Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing. 2 Thessalonians 1v3 (NLT)   

Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land you have given me is a pleasant land.   What a wonderful inheritance! Psalm 16v5-6 

3. I choose the eternal over the temporary. 

And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”  Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child.  And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.  Galatians 4v6-7  

I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. Psalm 16v7-8  

4. I confidently walk in God-honoring ways.   

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.  2 Timothy 3v16 (NLT)  

No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.  My body rests in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16v9-11  

5. I openly trust that God will keep his promises.  

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Philippians 4v4-9 (NLT)

1. Making room for God begins with INVITING His PRESENCE.  

A wealthy woman lived there, and she invited him to eat some food… 2Kings 4v8 (NLT)   

2.  Making room for God is ENHANCED in COMMUNITY.  

She said to her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. Let’s make a little room for him…2Kings 4v9-10 (NLT)  

See  Acts 2v44-47  

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.  Hebrews 10v25 (NLT)   

3.  Making room for God includes CLEARING out SPACE.   

Let’s make a little room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.”  2Kings 4v10 (NLT)  

Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.  James 4v8a (NLT) 

If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving—large or small—it will be used to measure what is given back to you.”  Luke 6v38 (NLT)

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5v22-23 (NLT)   

A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.  Proverbs 25v28 (NLT)   See Galatians 5v19-21   

1.  CONTROLLING my “self” begins with DENYING my “self’.  

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.  Luke 9v23 (NLT) 

 “So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away.”  Matthew 5v29a (NLT)

And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.  Romans 7v18-20 (NLT)   

2.  Self-Control is TRUSTING the PROMISES of God.  

I can do everything through CHRIST who gives me strength. Philippians 4v13 (NLT)   

3.  Self-Control is keeping my FOCUS on Jesus.    

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Titus 2v11-12 (NIV)

1.  The gentleness of Jesus CALMS my soul.  

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Proverbs 15v1 (NLT)  

If your boss is angry at you, don’t quit! A quiet spirit can overcome even great mistakes.  Ecclesiastes 10v4 (NLT)

2.  The gentleness of Jesus RESTORES my soul.  

“What blessing comes to you when gentleness lives in you! For you will inherit the earth.”  Matthew 5v5   

3.  The gentleness of Jesus PREPARES my soul for His good WORK.  

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Philippians 4v4-5 (NIV)  

Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 1Timothy 6v11 (NLT)  

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle.
