1. The PRESENCE of Jesus gives me hope.

2.  The FAITHFULNESS of Jesus gives me hope.

3.  LIFE in JESUS brings me hope.  

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.   John 3:16-17 (NLT)  

A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.  John 10:10 (MESSAGE)

Then the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. Luke 2:17 (NLT)

Hope of the World

 “The Choice of Hope”  

Advent Reading for Week 2:  

Isaiah 40:1-11;  Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13;  2Peter 3:8-15a;  Mark 1:1-8  

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:2 & 6 (NLT) 

 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.  John 14:6 (NLT)   

1.  Choosing Jesus SECURES my HOPE.   

Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.  Hebrews 6:18-19 (NLT)  

2.  Choosing Jesus bring the hope of NEW LIFE.  This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!  2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)  

Celebrate with praises the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has shown us his extravagant mercy. For his fountain of mercy has given us a new life—we are reborn to experience a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. We are reborn into a perfect inheritance that can never perish, never be defiled, and never diminish. It is promised and preserved forever in the heavenly realm for you!  1 Peter 1:3-4   

3.  Choosing Jesus brings a LIVING and FOREVER hope!  

Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.  John 14:19-20 (NLT)=  For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Titus 2:11-13 (NIV) 

 For this is the hope of our salvation. But hope means that we must trust and wait for what is still unseen. For why would we need to hope for something we already have? So because our hope is set on what is yet to be seen, we patiently keep on waiting for its fulfillment.  Romans 8:24-25

“The Power of Hope”

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12 (NLT)

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NLT)

Hope is the confident expectation that God is willing and able

to fulfill the promises that He has made to you.

1. The hope of Jesus offers me NEW BEGINNINGS.

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. Lamentations 3:21-23 (NLT)

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. 1John 1:9 (NLT)

2. The hope of Jesus offers me EVERLASTING LIFE.

He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us because of what Jesus Christ our Savior did. He declared us not guilty because of his great kindness. And now we know that we will inherit eternal life. Titus 3:5-7 (NLT)

Main Passage:

So the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many were bitten and died. Then the people came to Moses and cried out, “We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take away the snakes.” So Moses prayed for the people. Then the Lord told him, “Make a replica of a poisonous snake and attach it to a pole. All who are bitten will live if they simply look at it!” So Moses made a snake out of bronze and attached it to a pole. Then anyone who was bitten by a snake could look at the bronze snake and be healed! Numbers 21:6-9

There is a lesson that God wants to teach us.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think.  No, he  is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be  destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9 NLT

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what  we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 NIV

No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man[a] has come  down from heaven. And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the  wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who  believes in him will have eternal life.  John 3:13-15 NLT

Thankful 

Psalm 103  

Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.  Psalms 103:1-2 (NLT)   

1.  Thank God for FORGIVENESS.  

He forgives all my sins…  Psalms 103:3a (NLT)  

He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.  Psalms 103:10 (NLT)  

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.  Psalms 103:12 (NLT)   

2.  Thank God for HEALING.   

…and heals all my diseases.  Psalms 103:3b (NLT)   

3.  Thank God for His RESCUE.   

He ransoms me from death… Psalms 103:4a (NLT)   

4.  Thank God for His LOVE and MERCY.

The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. Psalms 103:8 (NLT)

Message Notes: Pray Like This Supreme in Everything  

“For yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.” Matthew 6:13b (NLT)  

1. The Lord’s Prayer ASSURES me that God hears my prayer.  

I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!  Psalm 116:1-2 (NLT)   

I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! Isaiah 65:24 (NLT)  

And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. 1John 5:14-15 (NLT)   

2.  The Lord’s Prayer HUMBLES me to a place of surrender.  

But I called on your name, Lord, from deep within the pit. You heard me when I cried, “Listen to my pleading! Hear my cry for help!” Yes, you came when I called; you told me, “Do not fear.”  Lamentations 3:55-57 (NLT)  

To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure…You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.  Psalms 18:25-32 (NIV)  

 3.  The Lord’s Prayer brings PEACE to my SOUL.  

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)  

Our Father, who art in Heaven Holy is Your name Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation… but deliver us from evil. For yours is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever… AMEN

Now, may Christ dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Pray Like This… “Prayer and Protection”  

And don’t let us yield to temptation,  but rescue us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13 (NLT)   

• Temptation strikes me at my WEAKEST point.    

• The commandments and law wake up DESIRES in me.   

When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death.  Romans 7:5 (NLT)  

• Willpower doesn’t have much POWER.    

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”  Luke 19:10 (NLT)  

You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the evil powers of this world. So why do you keep on following rules of the world, such as, “Don’t handle, don’t eat, don’t touch.” Such rules are mere human teaching about things that are gone as soon as we use them. These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, humility, and severe bodily discipline. But they have no effect when it comes to conquering a person’s evil thoughts and desires.  See Colossians 2:20-23  

And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13 (NLT)   

1.  Prayer connects me to God as my ULTIMATE SOURCE.   

Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.  Hebrews 6:18b-19 (NLT)  

Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”  Matthew 26:41 (NLT)   

2.  Prayer allows God’s WAY and WISDOM to guide me.  

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.  2 Timothy 2:22 (NLT)   

Don't be so naive and self-confident. You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. Cultivate God-confidence.  No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it.  1 Corinthians 10:12-13 (MSG)   

3.  Prayer brings FREEDOM and restores my SOUL.    

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.  Psalms 62:1-2 (NIV)   

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.  James 5:16 

Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.  Psalms 55:22 (NLT)

1.  Praying to forgive others DEMONSTRATES God’s forgiveness for me.

 2.  Praying to forgive others CHANGES my heart.

3.  Praying to forgive others BRINGS God’s PEACE.    

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.  Ephesians 4v31-32 (NLT)   

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.   1 Thessalonians 5v23-24 (NLT)

2.  God answers my prayer of forgiveness REPEATEDLY.    

You are a God of forgiveness, always ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, full of love.” Nehemiah 9v17 (NLT)  

Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save everyone who comes to God through him. He lives forever to plead with God on their behalf.  Hebrews 7v25 (NLT)  

3.  God answers my prayer and forgives FREELY.    

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.  Romans 3v23-24 (NLT)  

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.  Ephesians 2v8-9 (NLT)   

4.  God answers my prayer and forgives COMPLETELY.    

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.  Colossians 2v13-14 (NLT)  

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.  Colossians 1v13-14 (NLT)  

God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He's set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.  Colossians 1v13-14 (MSG)

Trusting God to Meet My Needs

1. Prayer recognizes God as the ANSWER to my NEEDS.

Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else? Romans 8:32 (NLT)

2. Prayer is my DECLARATION of DEPENDENCE on God.

Give us today the food we need… Matthew 6:11 (NLT)

Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. Matthew 6:34 (MSG)

3. Prayer is my RELIANCE on Gods RESOURCES.

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

A devout life really does bring wealth but its the rich simplicity of being yourself before God. We entered the world penniless and we will leave it penniless if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet that’s enough. 1Timothy 6:6-8 (MSG)
