A fishing net is thrown into the water and brings in fish of every kind, and the sorting comes later. In the final parable of the series, Pastor Dale says the church's mission is to cast a big net and bring people in, and that we are in the people business, not the judging business.
1. We the church fish for people.
2. The net catches the good, the bad, and the ugly, and Jesus is the one who cleans and judges, not us.
3. We teach people to be prepared to meet Jesus, because a separation is coming at the end of the age.
A merchant finds a pearl of great value and sells everything to buy it. In this Parables message, Pastor Dale says the parable is the story of salvation, and that you will never find true peace and contentment without Jesus where He needs to be in your life.
1. Jesus is the only one who can wash your sins away.
2. Jesus is the only one who can sanctify us, and He does it through the Holy Spirit as we trust His finished work on the cross.
3. Jesus is the only one who can justify us, declaring us innocent before God.
In this parable a woman works a little yeast through three measures of flour, and in the Bible yeast speaks of something that spreads quietly and corrupts. In the Parables series, Pastor Dale warns the church to be careful who teaches us and what they teach.
1. False teachers in the church deceive God's people.
2. False teachers corrupt the word of God.
3. False teachers push Jesus and His grace out and promote religious activity in His place.
The mustard seed is small, yet it grows into a great tree, and Christianity began with one man and one message. In the Parables series, Pastor Dale shows that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the seed, and that it must be protected.
1. Christianity started small, with one man and one message: the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2. The kingdom grows when the gospel is preached and we do our part to tell people about Jesus.
3. The birds in the branches remind us that good and bad people are both in the church, and other gospels will try to creep in.
4. We are made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ alone.
A farmer plants good seed, and while the workers sleep an enemy sneaks in and plants weeds among the wheat. In the Parables series, Pastor Dale uses Jesus' own explanation to show that God and the devil are both placing people throughout the world, and God's people are called to stay awake.
1. The mission of Jesus is to place people of the kingdom all over the world.
2. The mission of the devil is to fill the world with wicked people, and he works while God's people are asleep.
3. The devil is after three God-ordained institutions: the family, the church, and the government.
4. Harvest time is coming, so we should evaluate our own lives now.
Almost everyone knows the phrase "Good Samaritan," but the world has watered it down to mean someone who returns a lost wallet. In the Parables series, Pastor Cory Hester shows that Jesus tells the story to reveal something much bigger about who He is and who we are called to be.
1. We are not the Good Samaritan; Jesus is the one who came down to us in the ditch and covered us with His Spirit and His blood.
2. The church is called to be the innkeeper, caring for hurting people until Jesus returns.
3. What the law demands of us, the gospel produces in us.
