Myth #1: Being angry is always wrong 

Ephesians 4:26Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath. 

Myth #2: Anger is beyond my control 

 Joshua 24:15 choose this day who you will serve. 

Being angry is not always wrong and Anger is a choice 

Mark 11:13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

#01 Jesus was angry because of selfishness.

Luke 12:15 “Be careful and guard against all kinds of greed. Or selfishness  People do not get life from the many things they own.” 16 Then Jesus used this story: “There was a rich man who had some land. His land grew a very good crop of food. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What will I do? I have no place to keep all my crops.’ 18 “Then he said, ‘I know what I will do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger barns! I will put all my wheat and good things together in my new barns. 19 Then I can say to myself, I have many good things stored. I have saved enough for many years. Rest, eat, drink, and enjoy life!’ 20 “But God said to that man, ‘Foolish man! Tonight you will die. So what about the things you prepared for yourself? Who will get those things now?’ 21 “This is how it will be for anyone who saves things only for himself. To God that person is not rich.”

Be a giver

Mark 3:1 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.” 4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent. 5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 

#02 Jesus was angry because of religion

Religion is doing a God thing without God.

It wasn’t notorious sinners who killed Jesus, it was the religious.

John 2:13-17 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade.”

Matthew 21:12-13 He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”

#03 Jesus was angry because of cheating 

Proverbs 11:1 The Lord hates cheating and delights in honesty.

Matthew 18:4 Whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:13 The

“As a man, Jesus was subject to the needs, limitations, and frailties of a human being in this world. He had a body with nerve endings like ours, emotions that tore him as do ours. That is what it means for him to have been fully human.”

Hebrews 2:14,17-18 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God… Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

Hebrews 2:18 Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested. 

Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.

James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God” [for temptation does not originate from God, but from our own flaws]; for God cannot be tempted by [what is] evil, and He Himself tempts no one.  

Matthew 4:2-3 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”

Temptation #1: Doubting Our Identity & Satisfying Non-Sinful Human Needs Through Sinful Means

A temptation is anything that draws the mind and heart of man away from God and toward sin. Temptation also occurs when we are presented with opportunities to satisfy non-sinful human needs or desires through sinful means.

The human part of Jesus was capable of being tempted to doubt that he was really the Son of God.

Temptation is not limited to feeling tempted to SIN it’s also feeling tempted to DOUBT WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT YOU.

Satan loves tempting us to satisfy God-given needs through sinful means and he does it by attacking our identity. 

Matthew 4:4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 4:5-7 Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.”

Temptation #2: Proving Our Identity & Jumping Without Premise. 

Romans 12:2 …so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], 

Matthew 4:8-9 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

Temptation #3: Taking Short Cuts. 

Short cuts lead to disappointment.

Romans 5:3-5 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop e

Hebrews 2:17-18 That is why he had to enter into every detail of human life. Then, when he came before God as high priest to get rid of the people’s sins, he would have already experienced it all himself—all the pain, all the testing—and would be able to help where help was needed.

“Man Of Sorrows” 

I want to talk to you about how you can relate and receive the help of Jesus in your pain and sorrow. 

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

Sorrows - physical and mental pain, and anguish

Grief - physical sickness and disease

Acquainted - to know by experience.

John 16:33 In this world you will have trouble. 

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

1 Timothy 6:12 - Fight the good fight of the faith. 

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

It Bury’s Us

#1 Jesus Cares About Your Sorrows

Luke 19:41 But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead,  he began to weep. 42 “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. 43 Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. 44 They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not recognize it when God visited you.

Psalms 9:9-10 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

James 1:13 God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone

1 John 1:5 God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all

1 Corinthians 14:33 God is not the author of confusion

What you feel is not evidence of how God feels about you.

#2 Jesus Carried Your Sorrows

Hebrews 5:7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 

Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 

#3 Jesus Can Cure Your Sorrows

John 11:1Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.3 Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” 

John 11:6 So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days

Psalm 5:12 Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. 

Hebrews 2:17-18 This is why he had to be a Man and take hold of our humanity in every way. He made us his brothers and sisters and became our merciful and faithful King-Priest before God; as the One who removed our sins to make us one with him. 18 He suffered and endured every test and temptation, so that he can help us every time we pass through the ordeals of life.

Matthew 9:36-38 When he saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Pity is looking down on someone, feeling sorry for them but offering nothing. 

Compassion is to recognize the suffering of others, then take action to help.

Jesus was and is moved with compassion for 

#1 THE OUTCAST 

Mark 1:40 “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Mark 1:41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

Jesus was and is moved with compassion for 

# 2 THE BROKEN 

Luke 10:33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.  34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 

Luke 10:35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

Jesus was and is moved with compassion for 

# 3 THE RUNAWAY 

Luke 15:20 “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

Colossians 1:21-22 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.”

Jesus was and is moved with compassion for 

#4 THE BOUND 

Mark 5:10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. 11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

Mark 5:18 When He entered the boat, he who had been possessed with the demons prayed Him that he might be with Him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you and how He has had compassion on you.”

Jesus was and is moved with compassion for 

# 5 THE HOPELESS 

Luke 7:12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her.

Sharing hope is what we are called to do!

Hope is the possibility that inspires us to activate the potential of our faith. 

Matthew 4:19 Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 

God wants to use you as bait.

2 Corinthians 5:20 We are Christ ambassadors. 

Matthew 4:19 Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 

The byproduct of following Jesus is that you fish for people. 

The life Jesus lived exemplified that People are priority! 

#1 Everyone Has The Same Desires

Ecclesiastes3:1 God has planted eternity in the human heart. 

2 Corinthians 5:15 Jesus included everyone in His death, so everyone can be included in His life, a resurrection life, a far better life.

#2 Everybody Has The Same Questions. 

#3. Everybody’s Heart Has A Key

#4 We Have What They Want 

The better the invitation, the more likely we are to participate. 

John 10:10 I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness.

#5 We Are Not Alone 

2 Timothy 1:7-8, God did not give us a spirit of fear. He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind. 8 Do not be ashamed to tell others about what our Lord said.

Luke 21:15 This will be your chance to tell others about your faith. But don't worry about what you'll say to defend yourselves. I will give you the wisdom to know what to say.

1 Peter 2:12live such good lives among the pagans that even though they now speak against you as evil-doers, they will, as a result of seeing your good actions, give glory to God on the Day of his coming.

be nice to people. 

Romans 12:13 Practice hospitality. 

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Any story about God's goodness is your testimony! 

Your testimony is not about how bad you were, it’s about how good God was to you! 

1 John 5:10 Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony of God in them 

04.Bring Them To An Encounter

The Church validates your story… 

John1:45 Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
