This week’s message calls us into the tension of what it really means to serve like Jesus. After raising Lazarus from the dead, the crowds grow—but so does the opposition. Even Lazarus becomes a target just for being a living testimony. Like him, our resurrected lives speak louder than words. Jesus knew the weight of what was coming, yet He picked up a towel and served. He washed the feet of the denier, the doubter, and even the betrayer. That’s the kind of love He modeled—and commands us to show. It’s not about what we get out of serving; it’s about the honor of being with Jesus and doing what He did. Whether you’re parenting, serving at church, or just trying to love someone difficult, remember—someday they will understand. And God will not forget what you’ve done.

Reflection to Reflection

In this week’s message, we looked at what it means to be a reflection of the true Light—Jesus. From John 8, Jesus confronts the Pharisees who believed they were enlightened but were actually casting shadows with their legalism and self-righteousness. Jesus boldly declares, “I am the light of the world,” and challenges them—and us—to consider what kind of light we’re reflecting. We’re reminded that we’re not the source of truth, but reflectors of it. Just like the moon reflects the sun, we’re called to reflect Jesus. And when we do, we bring light into dark places. But when we reflect fear, pride, or worry, we create blind spots for others. Jesus offers freedom, not burden. The more we reflect Him, the more that freedom grows.

The Approachable Jesus

In the seventh week of our Beloved series unpacking the Gospel of John, Student Pastor, Josh Burfeind, breaks down the story of Lazarus' resurrection in John 11. A close look at the text reveals the character of our Savior - that He is not only impressive, but He is also approachable. We also learn how Jesus responds to our regrets and freely offers a love that is untainted by sin. This changes how we pray because we know that God welcomes us into His Presence and will love us no matter what we have to say.

God’s glory is not just something we admire—it’s something we are meant to carry! The Bible describes His glory as weighty (kavod), powerful, and transforming. When Jesus spoke of rivers of living water flowing from within believers, He was pointing to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, filling us with God’s presence and power. Moses longed to see God’s glory, and under the new covenant, we don’t just witness it—we are being transformed by it! 2 Corinthians 3:18 tells us that we are going from glory to glory, becoming more like Him. The question is: are we living for the wait or the weight of God’s glory? Today, step onto the scale—spiritually speaking—and boldly ask, “Now show me Your glory.”

News Feeds & Thirst Traps

Today, we face the question: What are we really feeding on? Jesus tells us in John 6:56, “Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.” The world keeps us thirsting for more—more distraction, more validation—but Jesus tells us He is the only one who truly satisfies. Instead of being consumed by culture, let’s start feeding on Christ. Let’s stop seeking the approval of the world and start preparing for the return of the Lamb.

Jesus’ interactions with the Samaritan woman, the woman caught in adultery, and the woman who anointed His feet all reveal the same truth—His mercy is greater than our shame. The Samaritan woman came to the well expecting rejection but left with a testimony that changed her whole village. The woman caught in adultery stood before her accusers, only to have Jesus silence them with grace and set her free. The woman with the alabaster jar poured out her worship, and Jesus responded with forgiveness and love. In every story, we see the same pattern—Jesus meets people where they are, breaks the weight of shame, and calls them into something greater. And He still does the same for us today.

Unlike the other gospels, John’s goal isn’t to lay out every event in order—it’s to paint a picture of who Jesus really is. From John the Baptist’s declaration, to Jesus turning water into wine, to flipping tables at the temple, to telling Nicodemus about new birth, John is showing us that God is doing something new. It’s like conversation stacking—one detail at a time, but by the end, you see the full story. The question is: Are we letting Jesus change our story? Are we making room for Him to increase in our lives? Because the best is yet to come

Our expressions often reveal what’s inside before we even process it—yet Jesus is called the Divine Expression of God (John 1:1), showing us who God truly is. John’s gospel tells us that when we receive Jesus, we’re not just given the right to become children of God, but the power to live it out (John 1:12). This power includes the freedom to choose Him, strength for His purpose, authority to influence others, and the rule of Christ over all. Becoming a child of God isn’t about having it all together—it’s about believing in His love, testifying to His goodness, and allowing the Holy Spirit to empower us (Acts 1:8). Will your life be a divine expression of Christ or just a reaction to the moment?
