Life can be busy and complicated, but we can keep a proper perspective to help keep our focus on Christ. First Corinthians tells us in Chapter 4, verse 6, "Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, 'Do not go beyond that what is written.' Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other."

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." How many times have you heard this quote? But the reality is, it is the sincerest form of flattery, as well as the best way for us as Christians to live...by imitating Christ. Daniel 12:3 says, "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars, for ever and ever."

Sunday Sermon for July 12, 2020 by Pastor Phillip Greene based in Psalm 51. Have you ever had a guilty conscience? How did you try to overcome? Ignore it? Push it to the back burner? Find a way to forget? David had to overcome great guilt, and gave us a song of prayer and petition to God as he tried to overcome a sin that was unsettling for him. Psalm 51 is a great word for all of us trying to overcome guilt today.

Paul reminded Timothy to be assertive and bold, and we can take the same lesson from Paul's teaching. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, "The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline."

Sometimes in the daily demands of life we can lose perspective. Wisdom is the key to upholding our character. James 3:13 states, "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom."

God has given us a gift that is more precious than gold...that gift? Eternal life, through Jesus Christ. We must trust in God and follow Christ, it is where we find God's unfailing love. We are reminded in Psalm 32:10, "Unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in Him."

We have heard that someone is "Self-Made" but that is simply not true. Humility strengthens our Character, and we are reminded in Colossians 3:12, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."

One day we will meet our Creator, and when we do, we will be called into account for all our actions on earth. Did you know that rebellion invites disaster? Remember the words of Deuteronomy 13:4 - "It is the Lord your God you must follow, and Him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey Him, serve Him, and hold fast to Him."

Are we too friendly with the world? We are to be in the world, but we are not to be of the world. 1 Corinthians 3:18-19 reminds us, "Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become "fools" so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: 'He catches the wise in their own craftiness.'"

David details a conversation between God and Christ in the Psalms that tells us the whole Gospel in a few verses, detailing for us who Christ is as our True High Priest.
