An Anchorage nurse practitioner was sentenced to three years in prison Friday for illegally prescribing powerful opioids to patients without medical justification, according to the Alaska Department of Law.

Dan Sullivan is rejecting the chance to sue the federal government for up to $500,000 under a controversial provision tucked into the bill that ended the 43-day government shutdown, which allows eight Republican senators to seek damages if their phone data was obtained without notification during special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection.

An Anchorage man convicted of killing a 19-year-old woman in 2019 as part of an alleged “catfishing” scheme was sentenced to serve 70 years in prison on Friday.
