By definition Chronic Cough is cough which persists beyond the effects of an illness for more than 8 weeks which is not related to the intake of any medicine (like ACE Inhibitors given for Hypertension), smoking, or pulmonary disease.
Cough is one of the commonest symptoms for patients to present to a Hospital or Clinic. in some Centres it is the Most Common presenting symptom in primary care.
WHAT CAUSES COUGH ?
Cough is a protective reflex of the human body which helps to propel mucus, infected material or sometimes the rare foreign body out from the throat and lungs.
It can be voluntary – under our control, or involuntary–which is sudden spontaneous cough.
Cough is an impulse that is conserved across evolutionary development (Canning 2008).
It has traditionally been understood that Chronic Cough in adults could be due to the following:
Cough is often accompanied by other symptoms including throat irritation, tickle or itch, voice change, and laryngospasm.
However, current research seems to suggest that in patients of chronic cough seen in Otolaryngology Clinics, Neurogenic Factors could have a significant impact - and these work by lowering the Cough Threshold. That has a significant impact on our understanding of this disorder. Other terms have been coined for this cough, the most common being Irritable Larynx Syndrome (ILS), upper airways cough hypersensitivity syndrome, and reflux cough (Athanasiadis and Allen, 2013).
Once a cough cycle is established, such as in Chronic Cough, the approach to management differs from acute illness treatment. The Cough is likely driven by multiple factors impacting on neural pathways resulting in hypersensitivity and dystussia (Jacqui Allen - Symptom Oriented Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery).
Irritable Larynx Syndrome (ILS)
The typical patient describes a dry tickly nonproductive cough often associated with a sensation of itch in the throat (Jacqui Allen). The cough may worsen on lying down, positional change, excessive talking , eating certain foods. It can be severe enough to lead to retching.

You might have noticed, your parents telling you, not to sleep with your socks on, but we hardly care for anything, that does not have a logic behind it.
Today we will tell you, five logical reasons, why sleeping with your socks on, is not a good habit.
Number 1. It Can Reduce, Your Blood Circulation.
While sleeping with your socks on, is associated with improved circulation, in some cases, it can go the other way round. Wearing tight socks while you sleep, can decrease the blood flow. If you have cold feet, you can opt for bed socks, or choose a size, that you wear normally through the day.
Number 2. It can increase your risk of infection.
Wearing socks, that are made of nylon, and other material, that is not skin-friendly, can cause skin infection like - fungal infection, allergy etc. Its best to choose cotton socks.
Number 3. It can raise your, body temperature.
Wearing socks, while you sleep can cause overheating. Especially if you wear socks, that are made of unbreathable fabric.
It might raise your body temperature even when you are not sleeping, and might cause a lot of discomforts.
Number 4. It will cause interrupted sleep.
Wearing tight socks can make you feel uncomfortable, and hinder your sleep. It may even cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. Thus, it is best, not to wear socks before you go to bed.
and Number 5. Poor Hygiene.
Wearing socks while sleeping, can increase the risk of poor hygiene. If your socks are too light, not clean, or made of unbreathable fabric, it increases your chances of infection and odours.
Choose socks, that are made of cotton, or bamboo fabric, and ensure you wear a fresh pair, before going to bed.
So, if you choose to sleep with your socks on, then make sure That, they are not tight, made of breathable fabric, and are clean, before you put them on.
A team of researchers has argued that smokers should also be included as one of the priority groups for Covid-19 jabs. The study, published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, stated that people who smoke or were smokers in the past are at a higher risk for developing coronavirus.
Weight loss diets have become a common diet option for people in recent times. Various types of diet methods have emerged to facilitate weight loss while keeping into consideration people’s requirements, health status and needs. Low-carb and low-fat diets are some common diets that aim at improving health through methods of dietary control and restriction. The effectiveness of the two is often debated upon and it makes people sceptical about choosing the best one out of the two. Several factors must be considered when picking an ideal diet. For instance, a low-carb diet could be helpful for people working on a weight loss diet, but it can also offer health benefits to people who suffer from diabetes. This implies that there is not just one factor that contributes to the effectiveness of a diet.
Cancer patients too can take the Covid-19 vaccine, but under medical supervision, cancer specialists said ahead of the World Cancer Day on February 4.
