  • 'New Normal' Anxiety with Helen Vaughan
A lot of our attention has been focused on maintaining social distancing and adhering to the Covid-19 safety protocols, and while these measures are critical to protecting those around us, these changes can have a significant impact on our mental health as well.
As we slowly move towards further easing of restrictions and as we begin to contemplate going back to work, people might understandably be feeling further anxiety as we adjust to our 'new normal'.
Helen Vaughan, psychotherapist and owner of Maynooth Counselling & Psychotherapy joins Susan to discuss what people can do to deal with the emotional strain of further changes to their lives.

  • Full-Time Carers During Covid-19 Crisis
Earlier this year Susan spoke to Sinead Tighe, full-time carer to her son Daniel, as a part of the 'Family Carers Ireland National Respite Weekend'.
Together they discussed some of the issues facing carers at home and the feelings of isolation they can sometimes experience when so much of the duty of care is placed upon them with little or no support.
While it is fair to say we have all been feeling the effects of the Covid-19 crisis of late, Susan thought now would be a good time to catch up with Sinead to talk through the unique set of challenges she - like many carers around the country - faces as the current crisis goes on and the ways in which social-distancing and travel restrictions have made a difficult situation even more challenging.

  • Reopening of Primary Schools & Managing Your Child's Mental Health
There have been increasing calls to get kids back to education as early as June despite the government's road-map of the easing of restrictions not looking to open schools again until September.
But will parents be happy to send their kids back to school if there is still so much uncertainty when it comes to their safety and how will social distancing measures be implemented if they do go back earlier than expected?
Susan was joined by Áine Lynch - CEO of the National Parents Council to discuss.
    &
We have all heard the advice on social and physical distancing such as hand washing, cough etiquette, and cocooning; but as we move from the middle of the crisis to what’s being called a 'new normal', how do we make sure our children and their mental health is looked after?
Colman Noctor, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist joined Susan to talk about how the current crisis - with so much fear and uncertainty - has affected our children's mental well-being and to discuss how we can better explain the situation to our kids when so much of their lives has been turned upside down.
