Welcome to the end of 2019. This always sneaks up on me. Next year I’ll be better. I said that last year too. One year it will happen. Monthly I add the notable songs together and put them in a general order.
So what happens is I finish Our Notable Songs of November then I think: Damn. I really need to look back at all the great new music and pick a few favorites. Then the Sunday before this Wednesday I sit down for 5 or 6 hours and listen. And listen. And listen. I quickly put together a list. It’s mostly in order. Then I hope I have time on Monday or Tuesday to listen back again. Shift a song or 3 around.
Yes, it’s an awful way to do it. Yes, I end up missing songs. Yes, I’ll do better. One of these years. Yes, one of your favorites didn’t make it on this list. That’s OK. Also, when it comes down to shifting these songs into the 55 minutes I have per week. Choices need to be made. I have way too many songs I want to play. This year I fit 63 songs in these 4 weeks. I should add another week, but 5 weeks of review, seems a bit too much, no? I do sometimes decide to leave off a great song by a more popular artist. Next is about new. They don’t need NEXT. So it does happen that I leave that song off. That’s just me.
Also, as I stated this is really just one sit down and listen though. This list would change a bit if I listened again the following Sunday and did this process all over again.
Thanks for listening and thanks again to Ocean 98 for putting next on the radio.
New music discovery is important and thank you for doing your part.
Please support these bands…or we wouldn’t have bands like this around to support. Buy an album, or a ticket to a show, or a tee shirt, or…something from them. Thank you.
If there are any bands/managers/labels etc that want their music removed (for any reason) please contact me (chris at allthingsnext dot com) and I’ll promptly remove it. Thank you, bands, for making music. Thank you for making my life better because of the music you make. I am a passionate music consumer as are my listeners. If you think NEXT streaming music is bad please think it over again. I am a music maker advocate.
