NFL Daily

NFL trade rumors are heating up with less than 2 weeks until the start of the 2019 NFL regular season & all 32 NFL teams will have to finalize their 53-man rosters in that same timespan. With that being said, NFL Daily host Tom Downey breaks down 7 notable NFL players who could potentially be traded before the regular season begins, including Jadeveon Clowney, Trent Williams, Taco Charlton, C.J. Beathard, Laquon Treadwell, Carlos Hyde & Josh Doctson.

Jadeveon Clowney has been involved in trade rumors the entire NFL offseason because he has been holding out from the Houston Texans in hopes of landing a long-term contract extension. The Texans have placed the franchise tag on Clowney & it does not seem that they will give in to Clowney’s request. Could the Texans trade one of their best players instead of giving him what he wants? Trent Williams is unhappy with the Washington Redskins because of the way they have handled his recent injury & Williams requested a trade earlier this offseason. Williams is one of the best left tackles in the NFL & it would be a huge loss for Washington’s offensive line, but the latest report is that head coach Jay Gruden does not believe Williams will be traded.

Taco Charlton was the Cowboys’ first-round pick in 2017, but has not lived up to expectations during his tenure in Dallas. He has been on the hot seat this offseason with the Cowboys’ crowded depth on the defensive line, but Taco put on a very impressive performance against the Houston Texans in week 3 of the NFL preseason. Was that enough for the Cowboys to wait & see if Taco develops into the player they thought they drafted? Or will the Cowboys use that as trade bait to get rid of the former Michigan standout. Carlos Hyde has bounced around the NFL over the past few years & he could be on the move again. The Chiefs are happy with Damien Williams & could potentially trade Carlos Hyde before he even plays a down in Kansas City.

Other players who could be on the trade block include Laquon Treadwell, Josh Doctson & C.J. Beathard. Treadwell & Doctson were both first round picks in the 2016 NFL draft & neither player has lived up to expectations. It appears the Vikings & the Redskins are attempting to get rid of their wideouts, but it is unknown whether another NFL team would be willing to give anything up for either of these players. C.J. Beathard is stuck behind Jimmy Garoppolo & Nick Mullens on the 49ers’ QB depth chart, but he has proven he can play in the NFL when stepped in for an injured Jimmy G, so other NFL teams who lack depth at QB could be intrigued.

Here are all of the players discussed in the latest NFL trade rumors on today’s show:

- Jadeveon Clowney

- Trent Williams

- Taco Charlton

- Carlos Hyde

- C.J. Beathard

- Laquon Treadwell

- Josh Doctson

The biggest NFL headline over the past week was Andrew Luck announcing his retirement with the Indianapolis Colts, catching the entire league off-guard. Luck is only 29 years old & was the reigning NFL comeback player of the year in 2018, but has battled injuries his entire career & was reportedly “mentally worn down & checking out.” In NFL rumors, could Luck end up returning to the football field to play in the XFL instead? Luck’s father is the XFL commissioner & there are a few reasons why it could make sense.

The big question now is how will the Colts replace Luck’s production? Will Jacoby Brissett be able to handle the workload? Could the Colts trade for Eli Manning? Manning is nearing the end of his career, but the Giants drafted Daniel Jones in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft & he has been impressive throughout the NFL preseason. Could the Giants trade their franchise QB of the past to get a head start on their future?

Speaking of trades, the latest NFL trade rumors include the Miami Dolphins reportedly shopping a handful of their players, including Kenny Stills, Reshad Jones & Kiko Alonso. Kenny Stills was reportedly called out by head coach Brian Flores for not performing up to expectations during training camp. Kiko Alonso is being outperformed by a rookie LB & Reshad Jones is not expected to be an every down player despite landing a huge contract. Which of these players will be on new teams in 2019? Another trade rumor garnering attention is the Eagles trading Alshon Jeffrey, but there doesn’t seem to be much reality behind that one.

Finally, NFL Daily host Tom Downey discusses the possibility of Rob Gronkowski returning to the NFL. Former Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins says he is 97% sure that Gronk will return to the Pats in 2019. However, Gronk is set to hold a press conference Tuesday morning to unvei his future plans in which he wants to “tackle new opportunities.”

Here are all of the NFL rumors discussed on today’s show:

Andrew Luck To The XFL?

Eli Manning to The Colts?

Laremy Tunsil Trade?

Dolphins Selling HARD

Alshon Jeffery Trade?

Gronk Return?

Texans’ RB Lamar Miller tore his ACL in Houston’s preseason Week 3 game vs. the Dallas Cowboys and will miss the 2019 season. Miller will be a free agent in 2020, so who are some possible replacements for the pro bowl running back? The Texans already made a trade this offseason by getting former Browns’ RB Duke Johnson, but many people question whether Duke can shoulder a heavy workload. Some of the top running backs the Texans could trade for are; Chargers’ Melvin Gordon, Bills’ LeSean McCoy, Dolphins’ Kenyan Drake, Redskins Adrian Peterson, Philadelphia Eagles’ Josh Adams, 49ers’ Raheem Mostert, Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott.

The Houston Texans other option is they could sign a running back that is currently a free agent or wait for 2019 roster cuts and then sign a running back that has been cut. Some notable RBs are Chiefs RB Carlos Hyde who is expected to get cut, Jay Ajayi, Jeremy Hills, Rob Kelly, and LeGarrette Blount.

The Texans are favored to win the AFC South led by QB Deshaun Watson & WR DeAndre Hopkins, so adding a RB to that duo would be deadly. Also if you play fantasy football, the running back that ends up on the Texans will be a player to target in fantasy drafts!

The San Francisco 49ers are 3-0 in the preseason after Saturday’s victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-17. The starters, including QB Jimmy Garoppolo, played through the first half and quieted the chatter from the media over his performance, or lack thereof, against the Broncos just 5 days earlier. Groppolo completed 14-for-20 for 188 yards and no interceptions, earning himself a B+ in Thomas Mott’s book. Mott gives you his 49ers grades from Preseason Week 3.

Kwon Alexander made his debut for th 49ers this week and proved he was fully healthy. Alexander tore his ACL last October and was questionable about his recovery in time for NFL regular season. The 49ers face off against his former team, the Tampa Bay BUccaneers, in week 1 and all signs point to Alexander not only playing, but starting. Nick Mullens, Matt Breida and Deebo Samuel were all given grades, too. Did Mullens performance secure him the back-up QB job? Deebo Samuel only caught two balls, however, he seems to have a talent that is likely to be fully tapped come regular season. And the Offensive line’s dominance in the run game helped inflate Matt Breida’s yards-per-carry average to a whopping 6.3.

We’re handing out a full list of grades for the 49ers’ offense AND defense-- but you gotta watch the video to see the full grades for:

The NFL Preseason is halfway over and the rumors & news continue to heat up surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs. Tyreek Hill missed Tuesday’s practice, but was back on Wednesday. NFL Daily host Harrison Graham gets you caught up on the latest there. The Chiefs made a couple of roster moves including bringing back speedy wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas. Does that mean trouble for guys like Tremon Smith and Cody Thompson?

Andy Reid will approach the Chiefs 3rd preseason game as a true dress rehearsal as he historically plays his starters into the 3rd quarter of the game. The Chiefs did not play well in last week’s preseason game vs. the Steelers and will look to change that vs. the 49ers this Saturday. The Chiefs also brought back veteran offensive lineman Jeff Allen to boost depth at that position group.

Sports Illustrated writers believe that the Chiefs will win multiple Super Bowls over the next five years. With Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, winning the Super Bowl is certainly the goal, if not the expectation. Mahomes recently partnered with ‘Head and Shoulders’ as he’s added yet another endorsement.

49ers Grades from Week 2 of the NFL Preseason against the Denver Broncos focuses on the offense, defense & special teams. Jimmy Garoppolo has 49ers fans worried after going 1/6 for 0 yards and an interception on the first drive of the game. Garoppolo’s backup spot is also up in the air between Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard but after a game in which Beathard threw under 50% and didn’t score a touchdown, is the 49ers training camp battle swinging in favor of Mullens? Tevin Coleman was one of the few bright spots for the 49ers offense rushing for 21 yards on 3 carries making him one of the biggest winners in week 2 of the 49ers preseason against the Broncos.

Kendrick Bourne was the only receiver to catch a touchdown for the 49ers in week 2 but also had a bad drop on a good throw by Beathard. Is his middle-of-the-road performance enough to land him on the 49ers final roster? Despite the struggles on the other side of the ball, the 49ers defense excelled for them by ending the game with 6 sacks and 11 tackles for a loss. Is Solomon Thomas finally living up to his potential and did we get closer to deciding on the starting safeties for the 49ers?

Here’s a full list of 49ers preseason grades handed out:

49ers offense: C-

49ers defense: B+

49ers special teams: A+

Jimmy Garoppolo: F

Tevin Coleman: A+

Kendrick Bourne: B-

Joe Staley: D+

Azeez Al-Shaair: A-

C.J. Beathard: C-
