An exciting weekend at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am gives the GolfGuide Podcast's hosts lots of metaphorical golf meat to chew on. They also look ahead to the Northern Trust Open, played at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA.
Normally, an error of this magnitude would cause this podcast to go unpublished, but some of the discussion was particularly fascinating, and we wanted to give those who may find it entertaining a chance to listen so it doesn't disappear into the abyss for eternity.

This week, Kyle and Casey delve into an array of golf topics and tangents than cover the upcoming calendar year. Recorded on January 21, 2016, the guys break down the first round of play at Abu Dabi, then try to figure out how to generate more excitement for the PGA Championship as it relates to the other three majors, including a dramatic formatting change. Then the guys delve into Golf Digest's most recent list of the Top 100 golf courses in the world, which both Kyle and Casey take exception to despite the fact that neither of them have played the lions share of the courses on the list. It's golf bafoonery at its very best. To wrap up the podcast, they review Shane Bacon of Fox Sports' list of predictions for 2016 and offer their own takes on what will happen on tour in 2016.

In this episode of the Golf Guide Podcast, Kyle recounts the highlights from his recent trip to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (3:53) and his favorite 9-hole course Aetna Springs (30:00). Then the two hosts get into an in-depth discussion about the various features that make a golf hole bad. Inspired by Rick Vacek's article on golfguide.net, the hosts debate the worst things an architect can do when designing a golf hole. Kyle also wonders what golf scores and handicaps would look like if people kept an accurate account of their scores (44:00). Casey educates Kyle on the finer points of playing fantasy golf (1:23:00), and discusses why Bubba Watson is one of the most annoying players on the PGA Tour (1:30:05). Then the guys discuss their favorite players to follow on Tour right now (1:33:40), and which players not named Tiger Woods they enjoyed watching a decade ago (1:37:30). They wrap up the podcast by reviewing some amazing stats from Tiger's career (1:39:00), and because both Kyle and Casey are unabashed San Francisco Giants homers, they recount a couple amazing stats from Barry Bonds' career (1:40:00).

They cover Rory McIlroy's golf swing, their favorite players to watch on the PGA Tour, how amateurs would fare if they got to play golf at a course set up for the pros and what makes a golf hole truly great. Casey also recalls the time he visited Los Angeles Country Club and almost used a former presidents locker and ponders whether Bill Clinton smoked during his presidency? They also touch on what characteristics of a golf course make people angry and want to go elsewhere. At the end of the episode, they discuss their favorite courses they've had a chance to play and what courses sit atop their golfing wish list, and why so many 18th holes stink.
