Night Demon Heavy Metal Podcast

This week we bring you the second installment of Jarvis' insightful conversation with Cirith Ungol co-founder Greg Lindstrom. During this chat, Greg explains how Robert Garven, Jerry Fogle and he formed the short-lived band Titanic and how Titanic morphed into Cirith Ungol. He talks about early gear, early jam sessions, and early performances, including a disastrous stint supporting a theater production of The Hobbit. Greg also fills in the gap in the band's history from 1971 to 1978, featuring a prolific songwriting period spanning from 1976 to 1979, which yielded some of Cirith Ungol's best-loved material to this day.

As Night Demon's fall 2024 tour with King Diamond and Overkill hurtled toward a conclusion, there were two strong tour stops in Phoenix and Albuquerque in early December. The Phoenix show was particularly memorable because many friends of the band were on hand. After a day off featuring a visit to the alien abduction site in Snowflake, Arizona, the band rolled into Albuquerque, New Mexico for the penultimate show of the tour. The show went great in spite of a rogue light, and even included an ice cream sandwich peace offering.

The fall 2024 King Diamond tour finally reached Night Demon's home market of Los Angeles, California. The guys played a highly successful gig in front of family, friends and industry contacts. From there, the tour rolled on to Las Vegas, where Overkill's involuntary travel delays wreaked havoc with Night Demon's preparations; however, the show ultimately went off without a hitch. The next night in San Diego was also stressful, in part because of unexpected issues with tour security. Listen in for all the details, plus audio clips from the shows.

Night Demon's fall 2024 tour with King Diamond and Overkill hit a major snag in Western Canada. Multiple heartbreaking gig cancellations because of the headliner's health issues, a pickup gig in Edmonton supporting Overkill, a bomb cyclone wreaking havoc on travel conditions, and an unexpected set of idle days in Ventura were all part of this experience. After six days off, the tour resumed in Oakland, CA, where a cadre of close friends and supporters were on hand to cheer on the boys.

This week we bring you three wild days in the history of Night Demon. We pick up the story on November 16, 2024, with the boys supporting King Diamond and Overkill in the friendly territory of Salt Lake City, Utah. The next morning, the touring party split, with some heading south to Mexico City for a Cirith Ungol festival gig as the others headed north to Vancouver, Canada. Remarkably, both the Ungol fest show and the next night's Vancouver performance went off without a hitch. And Night Demon just kept on rolling through Canada.

In mid-November 2024, Night Demon continued to power through a North American tour supporting King Diamond and Overkill. Fresh off a triumphant gig in Minneapolis, the band hit a setback in Waukee, Iowa, as Jarvis endured painful complications from his vocal surgery. The show went forward through sheer force of will, with a savvy adjustment to the setlist ("War Pigs") to cushion the blow. After two fortuitous days off, Night Demon returned to full force to play a blinder of a gig in Denver in front of a house full of friends and ardent supporters. Leaving the Rocky Mountains in their rear view mirror, the tour rolled on to Utah.

This week we bring you coverage of Night Demon's November 2024 shows in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Davenport, Iowa. The Milwaukee show supported King Diamond and Overkill at the famed Riverside Theater. "Obsidian" was back in the set (with audio to prove it), and there were post-gig adventures at a nearby speakeasy. The Davenport show was an Overkill headliner, with Night Demon in direct support. You will hear in great detail about the infamous Chicken Bone Incident that nearly derailed the tour and jeopardized the next night's gig in Minneapolis. But the band soldiered on and somehow fulfilled all of their commitments.
