In part 3 of our ongoing investigation into "Empires Fall," we examine how Night Demon came to work with producer Matt Hyde on this track, including Armand's long history with him. The band describes their experience in working with an outside producer and reflects on whether Night Demon really needs an outside ear in the studio. The guys also explain how and why they tapped Josh Newell for the final mix of the song.  You will also hear in detail from the three guests who contributed gang vocals, including their relationship with Night Demon, how they came to be involved in "Empires Fall," and their experiences in the studio.  Night Demon talk about how honored they were to have friends and musicians who influenced them contribute to this track, and how the guest vocalists lent punk credibility to the song.

This week we resume our in-depth exploration of "Empires Fall," the lead track from the forthcoming Year of the Demon compilation album.  The guys talk about how their observations and experiences with record label turmoil helped to shape and inform the lyrical content of the song.  Jarvis takes the listener line by line through the lyrics, including isolated vocal tracks and commentary as to the meaning and sometimes surprising origins of the words.  From there, Night Demon carries you step-by-step through the evolution of the song, which dates all the way back to late 2017 when it was considered for inclusion on the live album in an alternate form.  You will hear how "Empires Fall" was preceded by three vastly different lyrical themes.  We highlight key moments in the development of the song, such as the main riff lending a much-needed metal backbone and experiments as to the bridge, all with demo recordings to reflect the nascent, shifting state of "Empires Fall."  Finally, the band stress their philosophy of being concise, of avoiding repetition within songs, and how "Empires Fall" ultimately contains all necessary elements packed into a sub-three minute running time that somehow feels longer than it is.

In part 10 of our in-depth analysis of Night Demon’s early years, we explore the winds of change that confronted the band in September 2013.  A lineup shakeup results in Dusty Squires agreeing to play drums on forthcoming studio recordings, but leaves them with no drummer for imminent live commitments.  Armand fills in on drums for a gig in Pasadena.  You’ll hear from departed drummer John Crerar as he speaks at length about his feelings at the time, his reactions in hindsight, and his goodwill toward Night Demon today.  And we air an archival interview with Metal Assault from September 2013 in which Jarvis and Brent discuss touring and recording plans, plus a whole lot more.

In this week's episode, we continue our chronicle of Night Demon's formative years, focusing on the official release of the debut EP in summer 2013. You will hear excerpts from worldwide media coverage of the release, including glowing reviews and vintage interviews with Jarvis. A press release in early September announced the band's intention to go into the studio shortly to record their full-length debut album.  Night Demon was gigging heavily in southern California at the time, feeding off the youthful energy of a growing hardcore fanbase.  They performed a release show at the Bombay Bar and Grill in their hometown of Ventura on September 14, 2013, and this episode includes extensive live recordings from that night, including the live premieres of multiple new songs.  As fate would have it, that show turned out to be John Crerar's final performance behind the drum kit for Night Demon,.
