  • Social conversations: How profitable is castor bean farming?

With oversized, tropical-looking leaves and bizarre seed pods, castor bean is an exotic addition to the ornamental garden. The only member of the genus, Ricinus communis is in the Spurge Family (Euphorbiaceae). The word ricinus is Latin for “tick”, used for this plant name because of the superficial resemblance of the seeds to a particular species of European tick. Castor bean is native to tropical east Africa around Ethiopia, but has naturalized in tropical and subtropical areas around the world to become a weed in many places, including the southwestern U.S. Plants are typically found in moist, well-drained soils in disturbed areas, such as along river beds and roadsides, and in fallow fields or at the edges of cultivated lands.

  • Social conversations: Mindfulness Wednesdays

As you know Mindfulness is something that more and more people are talking about.

What is it? Is it related to a religion, philosophy or a sect of people? Why are so many people talking about it?

    This is a great introduction.

I would talk about how while Mindfulness has its roots in Buddhism the modernised popularised practice of it is not associated with Buddhism or any other religion. It is seen as a secular practice that is all about training the mind to manage all the thoughts that bombard us throughout the day and it is backed by scientific research.

From young children to politicians, CEO's, teachers, sportsmen, soldiers - everyone is waking up to the benefit of operating in the present moment. It is a thought management and stress management tool and anyone can practice it. You don't need any special skills, you don't need to pay membership to a club, and you don't need to buy anything. You simply need to train yourself to be mindful.

I can discuss the formal and informal practises that people can work with.

  • Closet conversations: How Common is it to “fake” an Orgasm, and Why Do People Do It?

Both men and women pretend to have orgasms, and the practice of “faking” is fairly common. Research suggests that women are more likely to fake orgasm than men are.

For example, a 2009 study published in the Journal of Sex Research reported that among a group of college students, 25% of the men and 50% of the women had pretended to reach orgasm. Among participants who had had vaginal intercourse, 28% of men and 67% of women said they faked orgasm.

Women often fake orgasm by making corresponding sounds, like moaning or gasping. They may breathe more quickly or move in ways that make their partner think they are climaxing.

Since men typically ejaculate when they reach orgasm, faking it may be more challenging. However, if a man wears a condom, he might be able to dispose of it before his partner realizes he hasn’t climaxed.

  • Health conversations: Transforming Quality Affordable Healthcare

Sooner or later, everyone gets sick. For those who can afford it, they visit a private GP or clinic to receive a diagnosis and the peace of mind that comes with quality treatment for everyday health concerns. What happens when that everyday quality care and advice is beyond their means? What happens to those who don’t have the time to wait in a clinic queue or don’t have the money to settle a doctor’s bill?

The all-too-common answer is that people delay medical care, or resort to inadequate home remedies or "Doctor Google" for advice. What if there was a better, more inclusive way to offer access to quality healthcare that is both fast and affordable?

World Social Work Day is celebrated across the world. The 2022 theme has been promoted by social work and now involves extensive global partnerships representing 100s of millions of people.
