What Is Sexual Medicine?

Sexual Medicine is that branch of medicine that deals primarily with sexual health, considering the wide range of social, physical and psychological factors that can impair sexual functioning and lead to an individual or couple’s distress.

How do you break down well-established barriers and encourage more women to enter a growing - yet wholly male-dominated - industry? For Siphindokuhle Mazibuko, director of service delivery for Middle East and Africa at global cybersecurity firm Mimecast, the answer lay in building a global support centre where women would have equal opportunity to develop their technical and leadership skills in the cybersecurity space.

"Cybersecurity has been considered a non-traditional career for women for decades," says Siphindokuhle. "And despite the rapid growth in this industry in recent years, it's a perception that is still pervasive today."

Ms Makoma Lekalakala joined Natural Justice as a Board Member in June 2019. Makoma is the Director of Earthlife Africa, a civil society environmental justice and anti-nuclear organisation. She has long been active in social movements tackling issues from gender and women’s rights, social, economic and environmental justice issues.  In recent years, Makoma has focused on targeting environmental corruption.

Her commitment to climate justice in South Africa has led civil society to win the first South African climate change legal case against the government and the reversal of the nuclear deal by South Africa and the Russian government. For her efforts, she received the Goldman Environmental Prize for Africa 2018 award and SAB Environmentalist of the year 2018 award. Makoma has her roots as a liberation fighter and is strong campaigner for a just and fair society.

It’s well documented that post-partum depression (being depressed after childbirth) is a serious and not uncommon condition. In some women, it can lead to post-partum psychosis, which has a range of symptoms such as delusions or strange beliefs, hallucinations, extreme irritation, restlessness, reckless behaviours that aren’t usual for the person, decreased need for sleep or the inability to sleep, paranoia, rapid mood swings and difficulty communicating.

Emanating from a meeting by and between the five teacher unions on Wednesday, 4 August 2021, it was

Confirmed that all unions have been approached by the media to comment on the intention of the DBE to approach Cabinet in regard to the possible reduction of social distancing in primary schools from 1m to 0,5m.

This new development takes place after the publication of the new DBE Covid Directions on Saturday, 31 July2021 that determine social distance as 1m. But, despite warnings from the teacher unions that 1m social distancing is not possible when all primary school learners return to school, it is clear after two school days that compliance with the 1m social distancing is virtually impossible when the traditional time table is followed.
