There are around two million traditional healers in sub-Saharan Africa. More than 200,000 live and work in South Africa.

Traditional healers are frequently exposed to bloodborne pathogens such as hepatitis B and HIV. In particular, they are exposed through the widespread practice of traditional “injections” by incision.

Over the last few days the Class of 2020 received their final results. The Independent Examination Board (IEB) matric class of 2020 achieved a 98.07% pass rate, while the Department of Basic Education matric class of 2020 achieved a pass rate of 76.2%, a drop of 5.1% compared to 2019. While the majority can enjoy a sigh of relief, others had to confront the fact that they failed their final year.
