Innovation Edge has launched a call for bold solutions to increase positive involvement by South African fathers and father figures in the early years of their children’s lives.

Selected applicants will be supported to pitch their solutions to the Innovation Edge Investment Committee. Successful ventures will receive up to R1.3 million each in grant funding, strategic coaching, customised operational support and connections to social capital. The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2021.

Things are slowly changing, but the wine industry is still male-dominated, says Koni Maliehe, owner and founder of Western Cape-based Koni Wines.

Being faced with both gender and race barriers tends to push women entrepreneurs to embrace creativity to drive business success. “We need to be assertive. We can still be compassionate while driving hard results.”

Maliehe, who had already been selling her wines online before the pandemic, switched her focus and increased her social media presence when COVID-19 and the resultant levels of lockdown hit the wine industry hard.

Irrespective of the lockdown, a landlord is not entitled to terminate services without a Court Order. As a landlord will not be able to obtain such an Order during the period of lockdown, any termination of services will be unlawful.

In the President Ramaphosa’s July 25th address to the nation, he announced that as of 1 September 2021, registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine would be extended to the 18 – 35 age groups…That mean adult South African citizens of all ages will be receiving their doses as of next month.

This book is inspired by my being a father of two daughters. My natural desire to look out for them created within me the increased awareness over the years, of some of the issues young women (andeven older women) deal with, and how society contributes to moulding the world around them and shaping their worldview. In the book I share some of the conversations I have had and continue to have with my girls about the journey of growing up as a young woman, discovering yourself and setting yourself up to reach your full potential. It is unique in that it is written from a father's angle, whilst women- oriented empowerment books are typically written by women.

Men also generally don't take care of themselves, especially those who are between the ages of 20 and 34. Young men are going through key transitional phases from adolescence to manhood and older males in their 40s and 50s have entrenched beliefs of what being a man is but both groups shoulder societal expectations of manhood.
