Nature is under pressure. Ecosystems are being degraded rapidly and a billion species are at risk of extinction. This is the shocking picture set out by an independent intergovernmental body, the Inter-governmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). The platform was established to make stronger connections between science and policy. Its view is that the only solution to the crisis is radical change in the way humans live.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on October 5 globally to recognise and celebrate the works of educators including teachers, researchers and professors worldwide. International Teachers Day is celebrated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in partnership with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Education International. The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2020 is “Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future”.

South African courts already see a large number of medical malpractice/negligence cases every day. Now, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, our already stretched health system is at capacity, placing extreme pressure on medical personnel, which in turn puts them and the healthcare system at risk of several dangers. Due to this added pressure and strain, it is likely that there will be a rise in medical malpractice/negligence cases being brought forward.
