Nightfall Horrors

Have you ever looked at a situation in your life and realized something was deeply off? Today, we are diving into three chilling, real life stories that explore what happens when people fall under the spell of extreme influence, high control groups, and unsettling dynamics.Recording story #1 was a bit personal for me, it reminded me of a time back in college when a close friend slowly stopped answering my calls after joining a hyper strict group on campus. I remember the feeling of watching someone drift away while you're completely powerless to help is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.Timestamps:

This video tells the true stories of four storm chasers and hurricane hunters.

From Tim Samaras, the most respected name in tornado research, killed by the El Reno tornado in 2013 one of the widest and most violent tornadoes ever recorded, officially rated far below what it actually was. To the fatal 2017 crash that killed Storm Wranglers stars Kelley Williamson and Randy Yarnall, along with storm spotter Corbin Jaeger, in a collision that had nothing to do with the storm at all. To two Air Force and Navy reconnaissance crews, Typhoon Goon II in 1952 and Snowcloud 5 in 195, swallowed whole by a typhoon and a hurricane, their wreckage has never been found to this day.

In this episode of Nightfall Horrors with Darek Weber, I bring you through 3 of history’s most baffling, bizarre, and strange mysteries that still leave investigators stumped today.

First, we travel to 1938 England for the Halifax Slasher to talk about a terrifying phantom attacker that threw an entire town into total panic, vigilante patrols, and massive mass hysteria before a shocking twist unravels the whole story.

Next, we uncover the mysterious Circleville Letters of Ohio. What started as anonymous threats sent to a local school bus driver turned into a decades long saga involving a suspicious death, a booby trapped weapon, and letters that continued to arrive even after a suspect was behind bars.

Finally, we head into Hagley Wood to investigate one of World War II’s most famous cold cases: Who Put Bella in the Wych Elm? From secret spy theories to eerie local graffiti, we separate fact from fiction in this famous, decades old English mystery.

Chapters:

00:00 - The Halifax Slasher

09:32 - Manta Sleep

11:16 - The Circleville Letters

25:15 - Bella in the Wych Elm

10:50 - The Flannan Isles Lighthouse Keepers

First, we travel to Shepton Mallet in 1763 for The Vanishing of Owen Parfitt. How does an elderly, paralyzed man vanish into thin air from his porch in broad daylight, surrounded by witnesses? And why did a discovery 50 years later only make the mystery deeper?

Next, we head out to Eilean Mòr for The Vanishing of the Flannan Isles Lighthouse Keepers. In December 1900, three experienced lighthouse keepers vanished off a isolated rock in the North Atlantic without a trace. I'll separate the wild urban legends and famous poems from the terrifying real-life evidence found on the island.

What do you think really happened to Owen Parfitt and the Flannan Isles keepers? Let me know your theories in the comments below.

On December 29, 1972, Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 silently descended into the Florida Everglades while three experienced pilots were distracted by a single burnt-out lightbulb. In this episode of The Horrors Of, we uncover the full timeline of the Flight 401 disaster—from the famous 9 minutes of crew distraction, to the legendary airboat rescue led by Bud Marquis, and the unsettling ghost sightings that followed on other Lockheed L-1011 jets.

Then, I cover the dark history of the Florida Everglades with the wild story of the Ashley Gang. Led by John Ashley and Laura Upthegrove ("The King and Queen of the Everglades"), this family of Florida outlaws spent 13 years terrorizing law enforcement, robbing banks, bootlegging moonshine, and evading capture in the sawgrass of the Everglades until a deadly midnight ambush on a river bridge changed everything.

STORIES FEATURED IN THIS VIDEO:

Bobby Bizup & Camp St. Malo: In 1958, a 10-year-old deaf boy vanished from a summer camp near Estes Park. Decades later, shocking reports uncovered dark secrets surrounding the camp's leadership, leading to the mysterious discovery of human remains kept in a paper bag.

Chad Pallansch: An experienced 49 year old trail runner and mountaineer mapped out a demanding 28 mile trek across the Continental Divide in Rocky Mountain National Park. After sending one final text near Mount Alice, he vanished without a trace, sparking one of the largest search operations in park history.

The Vance Family: In 2022, two sisters and a 14 year old boy set off into the Gunnison National Forest to live completely off the grid. Tragically, their attempt to escape modern society ended in severe exposure and starvation just steps away from safety.

Rudi Moder: A skilled 27 year old backcountry skier built a fully stocked snow cave near Cameron Pass in 1983 before disappearing into the snow. It took nearly 38 years and an unexpected melt in Skeleton Gulch to finally reveal his fate.

A quick note about the stories: They’re all based on true events, but we sometimes use pseudonyms to protect the people involved, and some details are fictionalized for dramatic purposes.
