In recent years, our screens have witnessed refugees from various war zones fleeing their homelands. From Rwanda, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and more recently Ukraine the imagery is especially harrowing when it features children. We explore the impact of war on children and how does trauma manifest.
We chat to Dasha Brailko a Sydney based Ukranian trauma counsellor. Her hometown is Berdiansk in the south-east Ukraine - a town that's under attack from Russian troops. After a traumatic escape from Ukraine, Dasha's best friend and her family…have now made it to Sydney and are living with Dasha in her flat. We also speak to Hasan Rrahmani - media producer now based in Qatar and escaped Kosovo as a child. Finally, we speak to Ghania Dib - you escaped Tripoli in Lebanon in 1985 and Jorge Aroche CEO OF NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors
