It’s been a ride straight to the top for Shaboozey, who blew up the music charts this summer with his debut single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” After seeing success with his music like never before, the Virginia-born artist is excited to keep the momentum going.
“I’ve made a lot of friends just doing this and hopefully I’ll get to make records I love with people I love,” he told KMLE’s Gunner & Cheyenne of the plans he has for his immediate future, once his touring schedule slows down. “I’ve been on the road so much I haven’t even had a chance to get in the studio but I’m excited to make new music.”
With that new music, the 29-year-old hopes to secure some fresh, new collaborations. One individual he has his eye on is singer-songwriter, Noah Kahan, whom Shaboozey says is his current “dream collaborator.”
“I know people don’t consider him Country, but he’s super awesome,” Shaboozey said. “I love his writing and storytelling and just how vulnerable and emotional he is. I would love to do a song with him.”
Working with and drawing inspiration from others is something Shaboozey clearly thrives on as he landed a feature on Beyoncé’s earth-shattering Country album, Cowboy Carter, and was initially inspired to write “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by J-Kwon’s early 2000’s hit, “Tipsy.”
“He had heard it pretty soon after It got made,” Shaboozey said of J-Kwon hearing Boozey’s version for the first time. “He DM’d me and just sent me fire emojis and said ‘Yo. You got somethin’… He’s a great friend and honestly, a brother, so I always talk to him.”
With Shaboozey’s success will surely come some official recognition via award show nominations like his recent 2024 People's Choice Awards nom - so what award would he be most excited to receive? “The Kid’s Choice Awards,” he said, alluding to getting slimed.
On a more serious note, he shared his gratitude for even being considered for awards as he never thought that could be his reality. “Just nominations are pretty important too,” he shared. “[I] never even thought I’d see those any day so, I’m super excited.”
