Patti and the Pottymouth make plans to join Big Papi at Cooperstown for the impending zoo and a voting makeover. There is some movement on both sides of the CBA negotiations but the stated willingness on the part of the league to miss games is Very Disappointing. The Minors will start on time and eyes will be on the mandated housing for players and the newly un-mandated vaccine situation. Pottymouth makes a one of these things is not like the other game of her Mariners BF choice Kevin Padlo, while Patti picks Ty France, veteran of our local summer league. Nick “Jonas Brothers Flow” Maton gets the Pottymouth nod for the Phillies, and Patti completes the 2015 international signing BF set with Jhailyn Ortiz. We are in the thick of Serie del Caribe and Pottymouth catches you up on the highlights. The Guardians model drama-free ballpark longevity. We make science happen with a local IPA taste test (We are always Pro-Z but A is pretty darn good), and say “sportsy,’ “rubric,” and “Who Dey.”
Today’s episode features a surprising number of references to Roberto Clemente, awkward puns, and post-production inserts. Pottymouth goes full Criollos for this week’s boyfriend picks – Vimael Machín for Oakland and no-no catcher Victor Caratini for the Padres. Patti’s A’s guy is Skye Bolt for many reasons that are not his name, and exercises her once a year forever boyfriend option on Padre Jake Cronenworth. Pottymouth and Big Papi both give Boston writer Dan Shaughnessy crap for his HoF snub. The Police Blotter features Angel Hernandez and a Petco Park tragedy. Winter ball championships are winding up in time for the Serie del Caribe, starting January 28th. Tampreal was never going to happen. We say “omicrony,” “did you just squirt the cat?” and “I can’t believe I didn’t say Schwah-bah.”

We celebrate declaring boyfriends for the Guardians instead of “The Cleveland Team.” Pals Pottymouth and Patti choose pals Yu Chang and Bobby Bradley. For the Mets, Pottymouth looks to Yadi fan Tomás Nido, while Patti goes local with Adam Jones fan Khalil Lee. International Signing Day brings a phenomenon to the Nationals and “Little Altuve” to the Blue Jays. The League brought a disappointing economic proposal to the player’s union making it even less likely spring training will start on time. Adding to our list of what cannot happen during a lockout, we learn that if a player is pulled over for a DWI, the team can neither assist or discipline, yet. Players can announce retirements, however, so we wish Jon Lester well, offer thanks for the memories.
This is the week Rachel Balkovec became the first woman manager of a minor league team, Katie Krall’s hiring makes the Red Sox the first team with two women on the coaching staff, and the Blue Jays join the tiny groundswell, adding Jaimie Vieira as a minor league hitting coach. Winter Ball playoffs are winding up, and the independent Atlantic League ends their robo-ump and pitching mound experiments. Orioles Park moves the left field wall in an effort to lose the Coors Field East nickname. We say travesty, Wordle, and flask.

That’s where we find ourselves in lockout land. Coaches can get jobs (yay, Joey Cora!), but players can’t get jobs as coaches (Sorry, Adam Eaton!) There are rumors of new economic proposals but no one seems to be in a hurry to get this done. We learn that sleeping in your car at an intersection is not a crime.
Pottymouth selects Captain America-level nice guy David Fletcher as her Angels BF for this season. Patti gets a little weepy over Brandon Marsh’s family and is all-in on this center fielder. For the Rockies, Pottymouth shows up for Connor Kok-Wy Joe’s qHAR and stays for his strength of character. Patti wants to have a beer in the stands with Colton Welker’s mom, no matter which corner he plays. Genevieve Beacom’s scoreless inning for the Melbourne Aces is international news, and this is a pivotal week in winter ball playoffs. Learn the Spanish word for “hit by pitch.”
We say “spreadsheet envy, “the the angels angels,” and “Joey from Friends.”

Anzoátegui is the new “adorable.” Pottymouth’s favorite word to say not only comes up in our international baseball segment, but sneaks its way in to this week’s boyfriend picks for the Tigers and the Cubs! We begin and end with some winter heartwarmers of Minor League owners and hockey fans changing lives for the better, and we break those warm hearts a little in between.
The Iowa Cubs sold to Endeavor and then surprised all of their full-time staff with a share in the profits. Kyle Seager goes out on top, and Eddy Alvarez skates over to the Dodgers. Omar Vizquel misrepresents divorce as justice and his HoF votes continue to plummet. Pottymouth finds another mom to drink (and have a pretzel) with in her Tigers pick of Akil Baddoo. Patti goes ex-Red with Gold Glove good guy and hippo namesake Tucker Barnhart. “La Balita,” Rafael Ortega, takes Pottymouth’s Cubs spot while Patti gets to claim Nick Madrigal, who was almost last year’s White Sox pick.
Genevieve Beacom breaks an Australian baseball barrier as she signs on as a development player with the Melbourne Aces. It’s playoff time all over winter ball so Pottymouth helps you read the Spanish language scorecards. A Kraken fan saves the life of a Canucks coach with one observation, and both teams are now helping her with her med school dream. We say “wire fraud,” “Yabba Dab Baddoo,” and “hippo needed a date.”

It wasn’t a spider bite or gamma rays that gave Pottymouth her Red Sox fandom superpowers, it was her Dad. Hear Bob’s stories of Ted Williams, childhood trips to watch the home team from the bleachers, brushes with fame, and the nice Jewish boys playing for the church league. He confirms the till now urban legend of pulling young Pottymouth from the Fenway stands to protect her from the salty language, gives in to our awkward attempts to get him to say “Schwarber,” and becomes the only guest we’ve had to censor (for use of proper names, not outside words.) Happy New Year from NCiB!
Upon further review, Adalberto Mondesi gets the Royals boyfriend nod from Pottymouth and Patti makes another early, bold choice for ROY with Bobby Witt, Jr. For the Marlins, Pottymouth hopes for A+ with Avisaíl Garcia, and your hosts want to have a beer with the maternal grandmother of Patti’s pick, Jazz Chisolm. As the lockout continues, there’s more time to explore the economics of it all, discuss the effect on injured players, and fill that last remaining manager gig with the A’s promotion of Mark Kotsay.
Who could predict that the Staten Island Yankees would provide the bridge between the welcome news of the Pirates hiring of development coach Caitlyn Callahan, and Police Blotter coverage of the antitrust lawsuit against MLB? International baseball brings us players giving back in LIDOM, LMP showing its range from “Mujeres en el Diamante” down to a wobbly umpire, and LPBRC bringing in some favorites, along with welcoming back fans. We tease our upcoming interview with none other than the NCiB legend that is Pottymouth’s dad. We say “outfit,” “King of Staten Island,” and “naked, horizontal agreement”

NCiB is 100% Boosted! A photo of Pottymouth’s Twins BF pick, Mitch Garver, drinking a beer while wearing his baby in a sling, has us waxing nostalgic and digging for similar photos from our own collections, while Brent Rooker’s Twitter feed is like a visit to the pop culture aisle in Patti’s brain. Showing her excellent judgment, Pottymouth sticks with Juan Soto as her forever BF when we get to the Nationals, while Patti goes hard against type with end of season breakout star Lane Thomas, son of a professional drag racer.
Yasiel Puig and WFT owner Daniel Snyder lead us to cross-train with sexual abuse/harrassment cover-ups. The Mets hope that Buck Showalter, older than dirt in baseball years, will bring some stability. Congrats to some of our favorite women in baseball, Paloma Benach, named a captain of her high school baseball team, and Justine Segal, back to Mexico to coach in the LMP, and to run baseball clinics for girls. Hard to tell if Pottymouth is more excited about women’s baseball returning to Japan, former BF Ildelmaro Vargas breaking the LVBP record for hits in consecutive games by a Venezuelan and signing a minor league contract with the Cubs, or her Leones playoff chances in LIDOM. One final bit of cross training as we look at the impact of COVID on both the NHL and NFL.
We say drag queens, 420, “that hair stays in town,” and use “Max Scherzer” as a verb.
If you are traveling for the holidays, please be smart and safe and careful! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. Fueled by local distilleries and breweries, Patti and the Pottymouth present their new boyfriend selections from the Rangers and the Pirates, with a bonus of Pottymouth sharing her research strategy tips (hint: it involves googling the word “scandal”). Please welcome Adolis Garcia (made us say “ARod”), Corey Seager (also made us say “ARod”), Ke’Bryan Hayes (we want to have a beer with his dad), and Roberto Pérez (we want to have a beer with his mom). We propose a science project involving the rate at which Clint Frazier’s hair grows. The Hall of Fame makes us happy with their new class from the “Early Baseball” and “Golden Days” Era, especially Minnie Miñoso.
The lockout means the only news is Minor League news - contracts for Dee Gordon-Strange and others, the minor league Rule 5 draft, and Endeavor buying up teams and forcing Patti to say the phrase “holding company” in a baseball podcast. The Fenway Sports Group joins us in crosstraining with hockey by putting in a bid to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yasiel Puig signs to play in the Korean league. The LIDOM regular season winds up this week and gets us the bonus vocabulary phrase “fi fla.” Idelmaro Vargas is tearing it up in LVBP, which goes until 12/16.
We say aguardiente, professional bull riding, and fluffy haired folk.

Patti and the Pottymouth kick off a new round of baseball boyfriends with their picks for the Orioles and Diamondbacks. Pottymouth profiles comeback player of the year Trey Mancini, and homegrown utility player Josh Rojas. Patti finally celebrates Adley Rutschman Day and finds a way to tie it to labor negotiations. She also selects almost-Olympian Seth Beer, because we love our Beer here at NCiB.
Advocates for Minor Leaguers announces a steering committee to create a collective voice, and first order of business is support of MLBPA in the lockout. MLB scrubs players’ NIL from their site and does that ever prove a point on the player side. The lockout isn’t even the biggest scandal this week, as everyone’s favorite baseball astrophysicist Meredith Wills’ discovery that MLB secretly used two completely different baseballs this season finally breaks. Pottymouth’s CPBL Lions add insult to injury, Dominican players give back, and Lobas de Areciebo are crowned champs in Liga de Béisbol Femenino de Puerto Rico. We say “rankling”, “Dusty Baker lit it up”, and “I fact-checked my dad.”
