Two Memphis Fire Department employees have been relieved of duty while an internal investigation is conducted in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols, a Black man who died days after a traffic stop. The employees were involved in the initial patient care of Nichols. Tyre Nichols died on Jan. 10, three days after he was stopped by Memphis police for reckless driving, he fled the scene but eventually was taken into custody after what Memphis police say were two "confrontations" with its officers. According to the family, the police beat him so badly that he became unrecognizable, and he was tased, pepper sprayed and restrained during the incident.
