In this week’s episode, we talk with Cheryl Miller. Cheryl’s love for running began as a 7th grader in New York state, where she participated in Cross Country and Track and Field. Some of her past accomplishments include holding the New York State record for the Intersectional Relay and the Women’s 1500 Meter State Championship title. This past year she traveled non-stop over 7 months to 28 different states to experience the joy of trail running across varied regions, climates, and altitudes. Her travels introduced her to ultra running.
In addition to being a lifelong runner and avid traveler, she’s a devoted mom and partner, a passionate writer, and a strong advocate for mental health awareness. Currently, she is the founder of KOA Running, a coaching and running group that inspires its members to build their training upon courage. She has written various articles on running and mental health for Hoka One One, Runner’s World Magazine, and several smaller athletic blogs. Cheryl is also the Assistant Cross Country Coach at Herndon High School in Virginia, a Hoka Flyer, and member of the RADRabbit Running Squad. She participates in a number of diverse running groups including Latinas Run, Las Tortugas Running Club, and Herndon and Reston Moms Run This Town. In her free time she is involved in several charities, and has recently started up the DC Metro-VA Chapter of Medals for Mettle, a non-profit org that facilitates the gifting of endurance running medals to those running a tougher race in life.
