It is another FIRST on the No Outlet Podcast...an actual Doctor! However...he is not just any Doctor; he is Dr. Jeff Slater the author of "Boxer, Bouncer and now a Doctor". The autobiography chronicles his amazing life story starting on the mean streets of Burnley UK where he physically transformed himself by learning how to box to defend himself against bullies. With a new-found ability of fighting, he became an in-demand bouncer all throughout Australia and the UK. He realized, however, that he needed to exercise his mind as well as his body and was soon back in the UK getting his doctorate. Folks...Determination, Hard Work and Self Belief are what this guy is all about and those are characteristics worth celebrating! Dr. Slater was kind enough to spend some time with us and was a total sport with all 20 questions! We discussed the best type of wine to pair with steak, UFOs, the proper way to pronounce Aluminum, Smokin' Joe Frazier, and the parallels of his story with that of Gary Webb's among several other topics. Highly recommend his book and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!

Another First! This was one of my favorite episodes...a departure from the standard format and a guest co-host! We are slowly fixing all the worlds problems, one opinion at a time. On this first installment of Probably Absolutely Correct we tackle the subject of TIME and more specifically how do we want to spend our time and what time investments will make us feel fulfilled give us the satisfaction of knowing we did all we could and used our time wisely. Yeah, there is a lot to dissect there and we really just scratched the surface but we did, in fact, scratch the surface! As part of that discussion we ponder the concept of the multiverse, free will vs. determinism, time travel and existentialism among other topics. We also discuss the stone cold fact that Hummingbirds make the best pets (acquaintances?) and that people who own cats may be crazy (they are). Finally we dive into the motivation and logic behind purchasing a Gym membership...everyone has a reason and it's not always to get a workout in. Anyway, this concept was really fun and a substantive thought exercise that we will certainly do again, thank you to Judd for the idea and for joining the show...we hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!

What a pleasure to have Improv talent on the No Outlet Podcast! I was lucky enough to take a 201 Improv class from the UCB (upright citizens brigade) and Sarah Claspell was my teacher. Teacher anything can be challenging, and she made it fun and was able to get complex concepts across in a way that made it easy to grasp and retain. Like everyone who teaches for the UCB, she has a Black Belt in taking Comedy Seriously and I am thrilled to have her on the show. We talked about the possibility of people having Psychic abilities (maybe?), how she got started in Improv, being roommates with Kate McKinnon, we determine if being a Red Sox fan is a sign of being pushy (yes!), making Terry Crews laugh, the benefits of doing improv via Zoom, her Improv "Mount Rushmore", her desert island food category and how Game Of Thrones really dropped the ball on the last season along with several other topics. It was a treat to have her on on the show (THANK YOU!) and I really hope you all enjoy the conversation as much as we did! 

1989 what a year!  Let's take a trip in the WAY BACK machine and revisit an interview that I was lucky enough to be a part of while I was a DJ at WPCR (Plymouth College Radio). The Smithereens (https://www.officialsmithereens.com/) were on a college tour and were making a stop at Foley Gymnasium at PSC. Long story short, no one wanted to do the interview and I was offered a better time slot if I did it...so I did! Pat DiNizio (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_DiNizio) was a graceful participant and, looking back at it, much nicer to me than he could/should have been. Sadly, Pat passed away a few years ago at the young age of 62 but his music lives on and so does this interview. Before the interview starts, I take some time sharing some thoughts about music in general, the lost beauty of Cassette tapes, how thankful I am for my Parents love of (quality) music, the extreme fun of being a DJ at a College Radio station, how fortunate I was to be able to interview several musical artists and a few other observations...such as how my voice circa 1989 sounds like some cartoon character whose most notable characteristic was that it sounded like it was laced with massive amounts of Helium Laced and played at 45 RPM when it was a 33 RPM recording. Awful. However, I have not listened to this recording for 30 years and it remains a very fond memory and I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I did. RIP Pat DiNizio and long live the Smithereens! 

Well this is another first for the No Outlet Podcast! The first legit opera singer!! Sarah-Nicole and I met taking an online Improv class through the Upright Citizens Brigade and then participated in a few practice sessions, she has a great sense of humor and is very quick on her feat…a great combo for Improv! When I found out that she is an opera singer, I was instantly curious as I have never interviewed an opera singer so I thought she would be a great guest for the show! And it turns out that she was! We discuss the healing power of Music (Scientifically proven!), the differences between an Opera | a Musical | and an Operetta, The character limitations of being a Mezzo Soprano, the problem with making a 12 year old throw a curve ball, traveling around the world to see opera, the embarrassing fact that I did not know all three tenors (or that Pavarotti was a tenor), singing (and break-dancing) in front of baseball stadiums, how to get a boyfriend to break up with you and the fact that Creativity will always find a way to prosper no matter what happens! Well this is another first for the No Outlet Podcast! We have one of the original Pioneers of the Hemp movement on the show! I was lucky enough to own and operate a Hemp company in the early 90s and I remember meeting our guest at a Trade Show in NYC and his company was one of what I consider the original 5 hemp companies and I was so impressed with how far they had taken the idea and it was really motivating. Over the next 5 years until I sold my company, I continued to be impressed with where they took the company! Live from Down Under Nicole explains to us what it is like to grow up in a country that is home to deadly snakes and spiders, we learn that she is a WORLD CLASS cat owner who puts her money where her ailing cat needs it, the pressures of growing up in the digital age, seeking (and finding!) a certain American Bloke, her trip to Disneyland as a young child, how she has never met a rude or unfriendly American...that one is hard to believe...how American men have lots of passion and manners (GO JOHN!), the complexities of the health care systems and why she loves a certain Portsmouth NH restaurant so much along with many other topics! If you ever wanted to truly understand how Australians view Americans and what makes them proud (and embarrassed!) of their country then this episode is worth a listen! Plus, it's another first for the show, the first person who has given a Real Ted Talk AND the first animal expert on the show. We met right before Covid really messed things up in an improv class that started off as a in person class and was converted to an Online class. I remember her being smart and funny and I knew she was into Penguins, but I DID NOT realize the was THE Penguin lady. But I know now, and was very fortunate to have her on the show...the one and only penguin lady Dyan deNapoli! We talked about reincarnation (its real), saving 40,000 penguins (obvi), going to Antarctica several times, the unfair characterization of Penguins in Batman comics (people remember), Brutal Mating rituals of Penguins, getting attacked by a penguin that you are trying to save, the catchy New England Aquarium TV spot and many other topics...some not even about Penguins!
