It has finally arrived.  After 21 races, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen simply could not be separated. 369.5 points apiece. 17 wins between them. It was finely poised for the final showdown at sundown in  Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina Circuit to decide the championship. Hamilton led for 56 and a half laps before the late safety car drama and a farcical FIA decision robbed the Briton. Verstappen made it count on the final lap though to earn a thoroughly deserved maiden drivers' title at the age of 24, sparking wild celebrations in the Red Bull garage. Only four races to go as the F1 teams headed to Interlagos for the newly-named Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil with Max Verstappen taking a healthy lead in the championship and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton hampered by penalties and a disqualification. But in one of the greatest drives in his career, the Briton fought off Max Verstappen to come from 10th on the grid to win his 101st race. It all boils down to the Middle Eastern part of the season and there are only 14 points between them. Joe Krishnan and Tom Dutton dissect an enthralling race between the title titans.

With just four races to go, Max Verstappen went into the Mexico Grand Prix leading Lewis Hamilton by 12 points. But after a Mercedes front-row lockout in Mexico City with Valtteri Bottas taking pole, the Dutchman got the jump at the start and never looked back. Sergio Perez at his home race took home third behind Hamilton to become the first Mexican in F1 history to do so. With just seven races to go, the teams headed to Istanbul for the Turkish Grand Prix, the final European race of the season. As the F1 championship battle enters the final stages with only seven races to go, the teams headed to Sochi for the Russian Grand Prix. Still on a high from their surprise Monza success, McLaren were eyeing another victory as Lando Norris took his first-ever pole ahead of Carlos Sainz. But as the rain fell with only a few laps to go, the young Briton paid the price for being on the wrong tyres and Lewis Hamilton roared home to his 100th grand prix victory.
