It's October and that means stations and streaming services are rolling out their bloodiest, goriest, and most violent movies as Hollywood celebrates evil. But watching bloody movies, playing savage video games, and even seeing the violence that plays out on the news everyday comes with a high cost. Studies have shown that they make us apathetic to the suffering of others, as well as desensitizing us to that which should shock us - including the bloody, gory animal sacrifices of the Old Testament, and most especially, the violent and horrific price Jesus paid for us at His crucifixion. How do we clear this hurdle? The book of Hebrews has some wise words to help us!

Someone once said that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This is true not just about secular history, it's true with our Christian walk. The Old Testament is not meant for us to follow to the letter as those in the Hebrew Roots Movement claim; nor is it meant to be unhinged from the New Testament because it's an irrelevant stumbling block as Andy Stanley and New Testament Christians claim. The Old Testament needs to be studied and understood in order for Christians to more fully understand and appreciate the New Testament. "To neglect the Old Testament is to neglect the New Testament."

At the end of Hebrews chapter 6 and throughout Hebrews chapter 7, the author talks about a man named Melchizedek, a very unusual and highly unconventional priest and king. Who is this man? Why is he only mentioned two other times in the Bible? Why is Jesus likened to him? And what does any of this have to do with the book of Hebrews, the Hebrew Roots Movement, and other current movements that believe we should continue to adhere to Old Testament Law? Confused? Join us as we sort it all out and clear the hurdle of Melchizedek!

September is Suicide Prevention Month. There are lots of things that go into the mix for someone to get to the point of taking their life, but the common denominator of all of them is hopelessness. Hopelessness is a tragic state that no Christian ever has to find themselves in. The book of Hebrews gives us what we need to clear the hurdle of hopelessness and never feel despair again!

Scripture calls us to obey the leaders of the church. Is this a blanket command to obey and submit to all church leadership? Is Scripture talking about just protestant pastors or does it include catholic priests and the pope? Are there exceptions to submitting to church leadership? Are we to hold church leaders accountable? Who are our church leaders submissive to? What does it mean for those in charge of God’s people that they will have to give an account? Clearing the hurdle of church authority is so important in our Christian walk!

"Deconstructing" is trending today. While some solid Christians use the term to mean examining your life in light of Scripture and reforming if necessary, most use the term to mean they are deconstructing the traditional doctrines and theology of the bible that he once believed and reconstructing it to serve themselves and their agenda. As a result, many well-known professing Christians have walked away from their faith. But can you walk away from your faith if you are truly saved? Why are so many who say they were once biblical Christians now deconstructing what they believe? What does the Book of Hebrews tell us about the hurdle of deconstruction and the pitfalls of not clearing it?

Without reconciling, understanding, and fully clearing the Truths we find in Scripture, it can be like trying to navigate with limited vision. It can cause us to trip and stumble over hurdles that the world, Satan, and even we ourselves put up in front of us. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve been given the keys to clearing any hurdle that might be put in front of us.  Becoming a hurdle jumper isn’t easy, but the book of Hebrews is a huge help in getting over many of them!
In Part 1 of "Clearing the Hurdles," we look at Hebrews 1:1-2 and the two hurdles we need to clear so thoroughly that we are willing to die for them!

Long before the modern day mission movement which has over 400,000 missionaries serving in foreign countries;  long before there were national missionary organizations, and churches that financially missionaries, there was one man. One man who was first to feel the urgent call to bring the Gospel to people in the dark and unreached places in the world. This one brave pioneer opened the door and made it possible for millions of missionaries to reach billions of people all over the world with the Gospel.
