We wrap up our "Faith in Action" series with Paul's final words in 2Corinthians. After he finishes what he has to say, he gives a benediction to the people. There are lots of questions surrounding the meaning and purpose of the benediction, including what are they? What is their meaning in Scripture? Today, why do we include it in our worship services? Is it just a nice way to wrap up the worship service, or is it something more? What does it mean to ‘receive’ the benediction? Is it a prayer? A proclamation? Or both?

What could there possibly be able to be appreciated about affliction? Most would say absolutely nothing; which is why being a "faith healer" is big business. These charlatans make millions and millions on telling people that it is God's will to have you physically healed and strong. They will tell you Jesus died to take away your afflictions, therefore, you are made physically complete in Jesus if you just focus on Him and have faith in Him. While the Apostle Paul is no longer alive, we know for certain what he would say to these people and their followers! And he doesn't mince any words!

How can we work to kill the sin of slander, gossip, and the like, amidst the congregation? How can we better prepare ourselves for worship? How can we make sure the Gospel is going forward in our church? And perhaps the biggest question of all, how can we make sure we are part of the solution, and NOT part of the problem?! In 2 Cor. 9:6 says, "Whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." What does this mean exactly? Does this justify people like Jesse DuPlantis and Kenneth Copeland having private airplanes? Does it mean that Paula White, with her mansion in Tampa and penthouse in New York is just reaping bountifully? Does it mean that those of use who are struggling financially, are struggling because we aren't generous enough? Is the answer to all of our money problems giving more of our money away?

Let's face it, maybe no subject is more sensitive than our money - whether it's being asked to give money, getting scammed out of money, or deciding how much money you need to sock away for a rainy day. God blesses us with material possessions. To some He gives a lot, to others He gives less. But He expects all of us to be grateful for what He gives us, be responsible with what He gives us, and use discernment when using what He gives us. We are saved by faith alone, in Christ alone, through grace alone. That is a certainty. We are not saved by any works we do. However, the works we do after we are saved are part of our progressive sanctification and do have eternal consequences. In fact, we will be judged on how faithful we serve the Lord and will be given rewards accordingly. To quote Derrick Thomas, "Some will be given ten cities, some will be given five cities, and some will just be given Orlando." What rewards are you getting?
