Noddie's Truths

Do people follow the slogans they repeat? If not, why not?

Jesus makes an appearance

A break from trauma, abuse, and recovery to talk about a pet peeve: people who distort history to make their arguments.  I hate it even when I generally agree with the point being made.

What does it mean when someone tries to coerce you into lying for them? Is truth the best policy?  If we all lie, when is it ok to lie?

This is a hard topic to talk about because I don't want to make light of anyone's pain, or try to justify mistreatment.  However, I feel like people around me, in focusing on "micro-aggressions" are starting to resemble grievance collectors.  I talk about trying to find a balance between letting everything go (eg being a doormat) and focusing excessively on any and all hurts we've suffered.

Rambling off the top of my head about cancel culture.

Talking about my experiences when my family joined a religious cult and how I see cult like behaviors becoming common in the larger culture today.

I'm talking about why understanding the facts of a situation is really important.  I tell you a story that makes me look a little bad to illustrate why we need to understand facts, not just feelings.  And a big thank you to the therapist who walked me through that minefield.

Talking about what I've learned about anger, and how some anger in the larger culture looks like anger addiction to me.

My thoughts on why pity is cruel and why the kind of "trigger warning" culture we're cultivating feels hurtful to me.
