  • Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 252 - Existential Essentials

The title of this episode will be: Existential Essentials

It’s an absolute wacky DBG from September 12th, 1992.

However, a bonus clip begins the festivities from September 7th:

    A CALL FROM MONADNOCK!

For the uninitiated, Monadnock (real first name, Jerome) was a regular caller to the overnight shows on WBZ. Always filled with wild mystery and conspiracy. I recall one time when he claimed the govt was watching him through a lightbulb in his home.

He does not disappoint here as he takes the liberty to inform us that his generation was brought up on propaganda.

    Topics covered:

A New Jersey story about an apparition of the Virgin Mary appearing to a man and the possibility that it was all done by the government and military.

I began to play the dramatic, mystery music during the call.

    He continues…Wayne Gretzky is involved.

Monadnock was drugged and his teeth were stained!

I now add echo to create the disembodied voice of Norm.

Liza Minelli is in on it too!

    The Red Sox are involved!

He’s been unjustly hospitalized over 15 times.

God Bless ya, Monadnock, we love you!

Now, from the sublime to the ridiculous, it’s DBG time.

    Players:

    Jay in Burlington

Rose from Wellesley (Mom of Debbie)

    Kim in Needham

    Fran from RI

Tony producing and playing in studio

Jack Harte from the WBZ Traffic reporting staff

    9/17

    Commercials:

Baby Gold Bond with grandma, Karen Miller from Robbinsdale, MN

    Classic Ovaltine

WBZ Promo for the NE Patriots season opener voiced by Gil Santos

    And later…

    The Federal Jobs Digest

A call of desperation from Wolfie closes the show.

Lastly, Norm is back after the news and intros Jack in traffic, and more madness ensues but alas it gets cut off.

Ep 252, Existential Essentials, theorizes its way to your ears, now.

  • Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 249 - Lots of Puns from '91

Here’s an excellent, maybe even one of the best examples of what I wish most of these tapes have on them here in the VoSt. Lots of commercials and promos, Norm reading accuwx and a story…all the stuff that fills out a show and adds more fun, especially when it came to the commercials.

So, what am I talking about? It’s a DBG from August 15th, 1991 that I have titled: Lots of Puns from ’91

    Players:

    Dan in Waltham

Mike from Marshfield but sounds like he’s calling from Irene in CT’s phone

    Campbell’s N.E. Clam Chowder

    Marshfield Fair Promo

    Ask a Nurse

Norm reads the Accuwx forecast from Bob Larner and check out the temps…sound familiar?

He also reads a story about a musical version of “The Thin Man” called “Nick and Nora.”

Ep 249, Lots of Pun from ’91, eye rolls its way to your ears in 3, 2 & 1.

  • Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 247 - Heavy Traffic

Welcome back to Norm Nathan’s Vault of Silliness and thanks just so darn much for being here. If you could take a moment to hit that thumbs up/like button, it would greatly help with our friend Al Go-rithim. And, if you haven’t subscribed, please do so. We’ve gained a few over the past few weeks. I would be so honored to get to double what we have now. A tall order, maybe, but with the help of all you kids in the Teen Canteen, we can do it. Lastly, check out the links in the show description for some ways to support the efforts here in the Vault.

Today’s feature presentation is a NNS from August 6th, 1996 which I have titled: Heavy Traffic.

It begins with Norm, Mike Epstein and Jack Harte having a loverly chat.

    Callers featured throughout:

    John in Cleveland

    Rita from Quincy

    Jeff

    Al in Waltham

    Jill

    And Suzanne

We get latest news on what I will call the “Goose Poop Story.”

There’s a section that will bring you back to the AM radio days as the tone is set with the reception quality.

And, maybe best of all, the return of Norm, Mike and Jack talking about the internet, which was in its infancy essentially. A very telling conversation considering where we are now. It does get clipped but is totally worth the listen.

Ep 247, Heavy Traffic, jams its way to your ears in 3, 2 & 1.

  • Norm Nathan's Vault of Silliness with Tony Nesbitt - Ep 245 - Astron-Normy

Did you notice anything about last week’s episode? It was an encore of  our very first release from the VoS. Good Ol’ Ep 1. Since we’re closing in on 250, I thought, why not? It was a fresh edit, title and notes.

That episode was so ridiculous I may repeat it every year.

That moves us to this week where we have a NNS from July 23rd, 1995 which I’ve titled: Astron-Normy.

Our Guest was Bob Berman, author of “Secrets of the Night Sky”

At the time he also wrote a column in Discover Magazine called, The Night Watchman and hosted a weekly broadcast on Northeast Public Radio.

He talks all things astronomy in an easy-to-understand way.

As fascinating and interview now as it was then

I still have my copy of the book.

    We even take some calls:

    Woody on a car phone

    Jim in Boston

    John from Wellesley

    Bob in his car

    And Richard from Shrewsbury

We move on to hour 2 where Norm takes a variety of calls:

    John from Boca Raton

    Connie in Melrose

    Don

    Steve from Melrose

    Jane

    Helen in Malden

    Bill from Houghton Lake, MI

    And Karen in Toledo, OH

The Steve from Melrose call was a special find here in the Vault.

A regular caller when he was in high school, he went on to pursue a career in the world of wrestling. We get an entertaining update from him here. My wonderful subscribers on Patreon got a sneak preview of that call. Just one of the perks of becoming a Patron. Exclusive content and episode previews among other silliness. Think about subscribing, won’t you?

During my close we’ll get to hear a familiar voice on a commercial so stay tuned throughout.

Ep 245, Astron-Normy, rockets its way to your ears in 3, 2 and 1.
