While there is much beauty and goodness in the world, there is no denying that it is also filled with evil and injustice. What do we do when it seems like wickedness is winning? In this sermon, we come to the book of Obadiah, the shortest book in the Old Testament, but one with a powerful message for God’s people. Obadiah reminds us that God is sovereign, he is just, and he will not let evil go unpunished, giving both a warning to the proud and comfort to the faithful.

Our journey through the Minor Prophets continues this sermon with the book of Amos. There was nothing flashy about Amos. He was a simple shepherd and farmer from a small town. But God has a way of using the ordinary to do the extraordinary. And through Amos, God spoke an extraordinary message to the people of Israel. He spoke to them about their sin and about God's judgment. In fact, the message was so extraordinary that it still echoes with relevance for us even today. In this session, we continue our series on the Minor Prophets as we explore the book of Joel. Joel delivers a powerful message to God’s people about how to respond during a national crisis. He also teaches us that repentance is the only true response to God’s judgment. Through his repeated references to the “Day of the Lord,” Joel shows us that God’s judgment has come, is coming, and will reach its climax in the second coming of Christ. Therefore, as Christians, we must understand how to respond to that judgment and how God will respond in turn to us. Join us this Sunday to discover all that Joel has to teach us.

We start a brand new sermon series this week. For the next twelve weeks, we will explore the books of the Minor Prophets. Each week, we will overview one book, examine the key themes and ideas it presents, and then see how we can apply them to our lives today. In this sermon, we will begin with an overview of the Minor Prophets and then take a closer look at the book of Hosea. Hosea uses the picture of a broken marriage to symbolize the broken relationship between God and Israel. The main message of the entire book is to show God’s unbreakable bond to His people despite their repeated unfaithfulness to Him. It is a powerful message for us today, because God’s faithfulness has not changed, and unfortunately, our unfaithfulness has not either.

Gender identity is a term that would have made no sense to someone in our society 10 years ago. There would have been no understanding that there could be a difference between our gender and our biological sex. But in the last decade, that concept has burst onto the scene with some devastating consequences. Sunday, we will examine this topic through the biblical worldview that we have been establishing in our last two sermons. We will look at creation, corruption, the cross, and consummation to see what they have to say about how we should view this topic.

 We continue our summer series, Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: God’s Design for Life and Gender. In the last sermon, we examined a Christian worldview perspective on abortion. In this sermon, we will focus on an even more fundamental problem in American culture: the family breakdown. Too often, Christians get distracted by individual issues like gay marriage or divorce and fail to look deeper at the core issue of marriage. In many ways, both subtle and obvious, our culture has devalued, dismembered, and disabled the institution of the family. On Sunday, we will explore a Christian worldview perspective of the family as God intended from the beginning.

For several years, we have taken a break from our regular exegetical sermon series each summer to explore challenging topics from a biblical perspective. This year, our summer series will be: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: God’s Design for Life and Gender. In our first sermon this week, we will examine the topic of abortion. There is so much cultural and political discussion around this topic that it can sometimes feel like Christians don’t, or shouldn’t, have a voice in the conversation. But when we step away from the news feeds and look at the topic from a biblical perspective, we can create a consistent worldview through which we can view not only this issue, but many others.

This is a revolutionary act that demonstrates the Gospel in action and shows that all people are equal partners through their fellowship with Christ. In the Messiah, everyone is offered God’s gracious gift of life. Through this grace, believers share a koinonia fellowship and become equal partners, extending forgiveness because Jesus has first forgiven them.

In this Sermon, we get into the heart of the letter to Philemon. We will see in the text some very specific and practical things we can do as Christians to resolve conflicts with others. Resolving conflicts is never fun, and rarely easy. But as believers, we have a higher calling to live at peace with one another to maintain the fellowship (koinonia) in the family of God.
