Matthew 28:1-10 & Revelation 20:11 - 21:7

In this sermon, we conclude our journey through the Bible, looking at the Story of Easter. Last week, we explored the climax of the narrative, focusing intently on the cross and the act of propitiation that Christ accomplished for us there. However, the story does not end with the cross; it is the empty tomb that, in so many ways, seals God's promises in our lives. While the women and disciples did not find Jesus’ body in that tomb, there is so much we can discover there: validation, transformation, motivation, galvanization, and anticipation.  

 We continue our journey through the Bible with our Story of Easter. We have reached the climax of the story: the cross. But why is the cross considered the climax? What exactly occurred on the cross that opened the door for our salvation? It couldn't have been just a physical event, as thousands of people were executed on Roman crosses. There must have been something more happening—something spiritual and cosmic. This week, we will explore what it means that Jesus is the propitiation for our sins.

This year, in our Easter sermon series, we will zoom out and look at the full story of redemption from Genesis through Revelation. From the beginning to the end of scripture, we will examine why we need a savior, why Jesus had to be fully man, what Jesus accomplished on the cross, and what the empty tomb means for our eternity. The 2024-25 Wednesday In The Word study at North Conway Baptist Church in Conway, South Carolina, is a chapter-by-chapter study through the book of 2nd Samuel.

The study is called 2nd Samuel: A Throne Established Forever and is taught by Senior Pastor Dr. Jay Worthington and Associate Pastor Will O’Brien.

The key to the book and the entire biblical meta-narrative is 2 Samuel 7:16, “Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” This divine promise marked the beginning of a covenant called the Davidic covenant, in which God promised an eternal throne to the house of David. Because of David’s faith, God did not treat David’s descendants as He had treated Saul’s. Sin would be punished, but David’s line would never be completely cut off. God’s unconditional promise to David would ultimately be fulfilled by David’s descendant, Jesus Christ. The covenant also included a continuing promise that the people of Israel would have a land of their own forever. An eternal King is given for an eternal kingdom of an eternal people.

How we dress is important. We don’t want to show up to an event underdressed, but we also don’t want to show up overdressed.
