Continuing through the fourth chapter of Hebrews, we see one of the great truths that the author of Hebrews is teaching us- our High Priest is ever ministering in the presence of the Father. What a glorious advantage over the Levitical priesthood- Therefore, we are called to come boldly, or with confidence, to the throne of grace in our hour of need, knowing that Christ stands ready to help His people.

Today's message covers the events of Wednesday from Holy Week in Mark 14-3-11. While this is often called a day of rest -since Jesus remained in Bethany-, it provides one of the most beautiful acts of adoration recorded in the Scriptures.

Concluding Hebrews 5, we return to the exhortation of this author to grow in our knowledge of the Word of righteousness; this we can do by desiring the solid food of the Word. Still, we should realize that the solid food is for those who are mature, meaning those "who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." So, maturity is not simply a matter of learning, but of putting that knowledge to use in our practice. We are called to live in this way to the glory of God.

As we return to Hebrews Chapter 4, we are met with an exhortation to hold fast our confession. It is literally telling us that we are to hold to the same word which we have always spoken. As Christians, it is urgent that we know the essentials of the faith and that we stand fast upon them to the glory of Christ-

A we near the end of Hebrews chapter 5, the author acknowledges that while he desires to say more about Melchizedek, the readers are not ready to hear it. This is because they have grown dull in their hearing and have not properly grown as to receive these offerings of theological meat. It is a reminder of the necessity of discipleship among the people of God. We must be growing so that God can use us to help in the work of the ministry of Christ's Church.

Continuing through Hebrews 5, we are reminded that Christ came into the world to save sinners. It was for this reason that Christ "learned obedience" by the things which He suffered and His "being made complete" was so that He might be the Author of eternal salvation. This mission required a perfect sacrifice and perfect High Priest; Jesus perfectly fulfilled both roles.
