As we continue our journey through II Thessalonians 2, we find Paul cautioning the Thessalonian believers not to be deceived by those claiming that the Day of the Lord had already come. While they are to be prepared for the Lord's return, there are other things that must take place before that day. Today, we will look at those harbingers that point to the day of Christ's appearing.

Returning to the fifth chapter of I Thessalonians, we finish our look at the exhortations given to the church at Thessalonica. Paul shares that it is God's will that the Thessalonian believers -along with us today- be a people who do not quench the Spirit- further, we are to be a people who love the revelation of God, and discern what is good and proper. These steps are essential in our Christian walk, bringing good to the believer and glory to our almighty God-

The apostle tells the Thessalonian believers -and us through the Scriptures- of the need to highly regard ministers for the sake of their work in the Lord. The church should have Gospel-driven leaders within a well founded church structure. Further, the congregation needs to be at peace with one another. In this sermon, we enter the fifth chapter of Paul's First Letter to the Thessalonians. In today's text -5-1-11-, we will look at Paul address the question of the timing of the Lord's return. No man knows the time or date- it will come as a thief in the night. Thus, we should live in the light of Christ's imminent return. This means that we must live like sons of the day...sons of the light. In this way, we will be prepared when Christ returns in glory...on whatever day that glorious event takes place-

In this closing sermon from our series in I Thessalonians, we look at the final exhortation, given by the Apostle Paul, to the church at Thessalonica. In this charge, we find the command that this letter be read to all the Thessalonian saints. We will look at the reasons for this charge. We will also see that there is a consistent pattern pictured in this text. Among the people of God, the Word of God should be at the center of our lives and our worship before the face of God.

As we enter 2 Thessalonians 2, we find Paul beginning to focus on issues with the timing of the return of Christ. As he writes these first two verses, an evident point can be seen- the people of God are not to be a people soon and easily shaken. The people of Christ need to have a firm and steady foundation on which to stand. Once having this foundation, Christ's people are to stand resolute and immovable. This is a message the modern church desperately needs to hear.

In this message, we bring the first chapter of 2 Thessalonians to a close by looking at Paul's prayer for the Thessalonian believers. Paul prays that they would be counted worthy by God. What does Paul mean here- If Paul is referring to our sanctification, how do we live in a way that is worthy- What we must notice is the purpose for Paul's concern...we are to live in a worthy manner that we might bring glory to the name of King Jesus. This should be the desire of every person purchased by the blood of our great Lord-

In our forth and final sermon covering the long sentence -of II Thessalonians Chapter 1, Verses 3-10- that Paul presents in the Greek, we will look at what Paul tells the Thessalonians in verse 10. Here, Paul presents a picture of a victorious Christ, returning to offer rest to His people and judgment on His enemies. Paul is using several significant terms to describe this day- Christ's return -parousia-, His revelation -apocalypsis-, the day of Christ, and the Day of the Lord. Secondly, Paul speaks to the revelation of purpose on that great day- Christ will be glorified in His people, and we will marvel at His glory- What a day of glory that will be-

Today, we continue our journey through the fifth chapter of First Thessalonians in order to look at what Paul says about the will of God for those in Christ. In verses 16-18, we will see that it is God's will that believers live Spirit-empowered lives of joy, prayer and thanksgiving to the glory of God.

In this message, Paul calls on the church to live exemplary, hard-working, and orderly lives for the glory of God. He also calls on the Thessalonians -as well as us- to encourage the discouraged, help the weak, and grow in patience toward one another. Finally, we are commanded not to repay evil with evil. These are important commands if we are to live out our faith in a way that brings honor and glory to Christ.
