Charles Boehm joins Jeremiah to give a big-picture view of the Club World Cup, discuss if there are any ramifications for how political it became and what that all portends for next summer’s World Cup.

After the break, they dig into the state of the Western Conference.

One of the persistent mysteries surrounding the Sounders’ tactics is Brian Schmetzer’s reluctance to play Pedro de la Vega on the left side. This week, we finally tried to get to the bottom of that and asked Schmetzer directly. Jeremiah and Niko discuss Brian’s answer, as well as all the other stuff that happened, on the latest episode of “What we learned this week.”

The Seattle Sounders are coming off a 1-1 tie with the Columbus Crew. While the result was rendered almost meaningless by the way the game ended, now that it’s clear Stefan Frei is doing much better it feels like we can finally unpack what actually happened.

Matt Doyle returns to Nos Audietis for another episode of “How the West will be won.” The first segment focuses on the Sounders. Doyle has some really positive things to say about several Sounders’ potential national team futures as he gives full-throated support for both Cristian Roldan and Jackson Ragen to get serious looks for next summer’s World Cup. He also admits that he’s come around on Obed Vargas’ potential and thinks a lucrative move to Europe is in the cards.

In the second segment, Jeremiah and Matt dig into the Vancouver Whitecaps’ recent struggles, San Diego FC’s slip up, the Timbers’ ability to stick around and other top Western Conference contenders.

You can read Matt Doyle every week at MLSsoccer.com, watch his tactical videos on Bluesky and subscribe his new “Tactics Free Zone” newsletter.

With the Fourth of July playing havoc with their schedules, Jeremiah did a solo podcast without Niko Moreno. There was a lot going on this week, including big injury news, a couple signing rumors, a kit leak and a preview of the Crew game.

It’s a little late, but Jeremiah and Aaron got around to doing the mailbag for June. Among the big questions they attempt to tackle is “what are the Sounders doing with their cap space and Club World Cup money?” They also dig into the questions about getting the most out of their talented players, what is going to happen with Obed Vargas and a ton of other things that are listeners’ minds.

As a reminder, all these questions came from our private Discord, which is available to all subscribers at the Supporter ($75/year) level or above. If you’d like to upgrade your membership, you can do so here. If you’re already a Supporter or above and want to join the Discord, shoot us an email.

The Seattle Sounders are back in league play, albeit very short-handed at centerback. Jeremiah and Niko assess how they’re going to manage that situation against Austin FC.

The Seattle Sounders’ run in the Club World Cup has come to an end, which is a perfect time to take stock of what we made of it. Jeremiah and Aaron discuss the high points and the low points. They came away feeling a bit more excited about next summer’s World Cup, with a sense that the gap between Europe and the rest of the world is a bit smaller than we previously thought and believing that the Sounders’ have a roster that should be able to compete going forward.

The Club World Cup is about halfway through the group stage, with three of the six games scheduled in Seattle having now been played. It seems like a good opportunity to take stock of what we’ve learned about both this tournament and the Seattle Sounders’ place in it.

To help give a broader picture, Jeremiah is joined by Niko Moreno and Tim Foss for another episode of “What we learned this week.”

Jeremiah and Niko Moreno get together for another episode of “What we learned this week” and they’re pretty much focused on the Club World Cup. In addition to giving a preview of Botafogo and a general sense of what we expect from the Sounders, they also gave an update on the state of negotiations between the players and owners over the bonuses.

The good news: Albert Rusnák says the players will play. The bad news: they aren’t happy and don’t think the fight is over.
