It's the crossover event of the previous decade: two entitled pre-teens with a dangerous excess of personal power are tasked with solving the problems they themselves consistently create in half an hour or less, minus commercial breaks. The only difference is that one does it with science and the other with magic. Oh, and also one of them is rendered in some of the worst-aging early 2000s CGI you've ever seen and the other is a cross-section of Butch Hartman's prime animation work, before he became a Youtuber and started charging three figures for commissions. That's right, we're talking Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Odd Parents, two of Nickelodeon's heaviest hitters... but apparently they're not heavy enough to get into Nick All Star Brawl, so who's to say? October 12, 2021 Nostalgia Blinded 31: It's Synching Now
It's a brave new world of Nostalgia Blinded, everyone: today it's not a TV show, video game, film, book, or song, but instead an outmoded and discontinued piece of consumer electronics hardware. Listen... we'll be the first to admit that we occasionally suffer a dearth of compelling commentary about the main episode topic, and we're certainly not going to be diving into the audio processor specs of Nick's iPod Nano, so expect some tangents, from old emails to misbegotten bids for YouTube let's play fame to the wonderful works of one Mr. Weird Al Yankovik. Really, it's crazy how many parts of our lives these tiny pieces of plastic touched. Almost like the wide variety of songs they could hold... which was like, 40. August 25, 2021 Nostalgia Blinded 28: Just Good, Clean Baseball (But Like, It's Mario)
From that one commercial where the two boys and their teacher were trash talking each other in baseball hand signs, to a campaign mode with absolutely ZERO supernatural occurrences, Mario Super Sluggers captured our imaginations. Then promptly lost them when we realized that the game was just baseball. Thankfully, it recognized this and never actually forces you to play through 9 innings of baseball. It instead forces you to play through a Monkey Island-esque point and click adventure campaign to unlock all the deepest of deep cut characters. But I mean, come on, don't you want to play as Baby Daisy? Or Tiny Kong? Or Pink Pianta? Yeah, I thought so. This week, the Nicks step up to the podcast plate and talk about Mario Super Sluggers!

We got as much mileage as we could out of that one stupid thing Hillary Clinton said five years ago, but not nearly as much mileage as this middle-schooler got out of being possessed by an ancient Japanese board game-playing ghost. He'll use that ghost to cheat against his pretty-boy Go prodigy rival, train for his comprehensive Go exams, and of course to work up the motivation he needs to build a successful career on the Go tournament circuit. Wait... is this manga just about Go? And there are no ghost power trick stones? Okay. This week, the Nicks learn to place their stones like pros and talk about Hikaru no Go! July 13, 2021 Nostalgia Blinded 23: Slamball is Basketball With Violence
The writer's strike really shaped television in the late 2000's and early 2010's. Without the rise of realty television, we may have never gotten the CN Real Block. Wednesday evenings were filled with Mythbusters, Ghost Hunters, and regular sports rip offs usually hosted by actual children. These kids would blow up forklifts and jump off of roofs. Someone may have gotten hurt were it not for the benevolent Party Deity watching over them. This week, the Nicks TALK, TALK, TALK about a grab bag of CN Real Shows (Dude, What Would Happen?, Slamball, Destroy Build Destroy).
