Nostaljunk Podcast

YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A CAR. YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A HANDBAG. YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A TELEVISION. YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A MOVIE... but we did download and burn HUNDREDS of movies and albums in the late 90s and 00s. We take an action-packed run through our burnt CD and DVD spindles, revisiting our memories and collections of P2P downloading—Napster, KaZaA, Lime Wire, audiogalaxy, Scour, and more. Music, movies, software, and of course... PORN. So much porn. We also discuss early Slipknot (Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. and their self-titled debut), the origins of the 00s piracy crackdown and hate for Metallica/Lars (but he wasn't wrong), nu metal (again), discovering new musical tastes (death metal, Meshuggah, etc), burning mixes with Nero and wisely filling time on the discs, the high-cost of buying new albums (which may have justified the downloading, only to preview the album before you actually bought them), and why do we still remember the lyrics to Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba"? Spotify. Apple Music. STEAL THIS EPISODE!

Do you remember the musical fad known as NU METAL? WE DO! We were fans of it. We still listen to it. We're not too proud to admit it as metalheads--although some might because it isn't KVLT enough--but seriously... how good was the first KORN Self-Titled record? What about LIMP BIZKIT'S debut release "Three Dollar Bill Y'all"? Who were the pioneers of the genre? How many strings do you need? The fashion, or the lack thereof... We take deep dive into the obscurity of this metal subculture that (d)evolved from raw emotion to paint-by-numbers pop-metal.

The holiday season is upon us, which means it’s time to put 2020 in the rearview mirror, and kick back with a great Christmas movie!

What exactly is a Christmas movie? Is merely being set at Christmas enough? Or is there some elusive other element that makes a Christmas movie a Christmas movie? It’s the old “Does Die Hard count?” debate.

JIM LAHEY said it best "I am the liquor"... this episode goes off the rails! Kyle and Matt watch WES CRAVEN's 1984 A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. Find out WES' inspiration for FREDDY KRUEGER and the concept of staying awake in fear of being killed by something in your dreams... This episode is full of facts and trivia, almost in real-time; plus plenty of moments of foolishness and wheezing. Kyle quotes the TRAILER PARK BOYS' JIM LAHEY, they discuss travelling out of town for drive-in movies, 80s moms and their alcoholism, and MORE!

FIRST IT CONTROLS YOUR MIND, THEN IT DESTROYS YOUR BODY... Let's revisit David Cronenberg’s body-horror film, Videodrome. James Woods stars as Max Renn, a president of a sleazy television network. Renn discovers an unknown transmission known as Videodrome — a fever dream that basically hacks his brain with images and gratuitous displays of torture, mutilation, murder, and other truly gross body stuff, causing him and anyone who watches it to hallucinate. But aren't we also watching Videodrome... LONG.LIVE.THE.NEW.FLESH.

SUMMER IS HERE AND CAMP ARAWAK IS OPEN... Sleepaway Camp (also marketed on VHS as Nightmare Vacation) is a 1983 slasher film written and directed by Robert Hiltzik who also served as executive producer. The film is about the killings of teen campers at a summer camp. The film came at a time when slasher films were in their heyday, and is largely known for its twist ending which is considered by some to be one of the most shocking endings among horror films. Made on a budget of only $350,000 the film saw big box office returns of over $11 million. For full information and details on the entire franchise visit the official franchise website - Click Here

Although Sleepaway Camp has a strong cult following, it wasn't until the advent of the Internet that the horror community was able to revitalize and remind us that Jason Voohees isn't the only slasher that can kill you in the woods, nor does a slasher have to be a he (or she)...?
