This week, Sam drops by again in the podcast and we discuss hustling in the comedy scene, especially during these trying times.
We talk about what he's been up to during the circuit breaker, preparing for his show and what he thinks about the meaning of the hustle. We discuss what it means to be a comedian in Singapore and how to push boundaries without getting in trouble and how hard it is to run shows as a comedian and showrunner.
He's been preparing for the independent release of his first comedy stand up special, Coming Out Loud.

This week, I went into the vault and found an episode from #YourJobSucks with my co-host Don and veterinary doctor Dawn Chong.
In this episode, Donovan and I get a glimpse on what it's like to be a veterinarian in Singapore. Dawn explains what it's like to be a vet in Singapore (More work than just playing with puppies), why she became a vet and what she has to do when encountering unique and weird pets.
We discuss how to get over the emotional aspects of taking care of sick animals, the difference between cat and dog people and how loving animals don't pay the rent.

I went back to the vault and found this episode. It was initially a 2 part series but I am going to release as one episode. I also would like to admit that I made a mistake during the intro of the podcast episode which Sam was correct during the podcast
This is an episode which was initially intended to be titled as a screen writer and Sam and I chatted with B. Mark Seabrooks. We talked about being a bartender, making a good Bloody Mary and the idea of making good art without the bad art. We talked about the "production studio" language and how he got rid of his ego in thinking "Drama is art" by relating to his father's job. We talked about race and writing with authenticity and how character is not as much as we think it may be.

This week, I am going back into the vault and found an episode that I had with a guest that was featured very recently, Umar Rana.
This episode, I remember having a chat with Umar Rana talking about what is it like to be a banker and working in a bank environment. Coming from a banking background, Umar Rana talked about the conversation topics that bankers have. The idea of working in a bank and how the media portray the stereotype of working in a bank and finally get everything right. He mentioned about the stress level working in a bank and how it had affected different people and molded to be in a different person. Of course we also discuss about how much money can a person get working in a bank and the career trajectory as a banker.
I went back into the vault and found this episode which follows the format that when I first started podcasting.Sam, Donovan and I were discussing about being a fitness instructor. I wondered why fitness instructor isn't a job that got phased out by an app and suggested how Shia LeBouf replacing the job of fitness instructor and there is when the drama between Sam and Don happened in this episode. Sam is shocked that there are fat fitness instructor while I talked about trying to be inspired a before fat and now lean fitness instructor. We explore the reason why there might be fat instructor and drinking beer after the game. Sam finally justified the reason for fitness instructor to exist with Marvel movie being mentioned and how fitness instructor has played a major role in Hollywood.
I went back into the vault and manage to find the episode that I talked to a firefighter a few years ago
We all have thought about it, the heroic actions of a firefighter come barging in saving us from a fire that sounds like fantasy and our guest from this episode Ashwin tells us if he had been into a burning building, the types of fire and the dangers of being in a burning building. We try to understand what happens in a suicide situation for the fireman will be and how that created a PR situation due to ignorance of a bystander as well. We of course talk about the stripper pole in the fire station and the crazy story that he had met with the firing of gun (in Singapore?! WHAT?) before doing this episode. I also learnt that we had the fire station open house and what happened during the open house.
THIS IS A THROWBACK EPISODE
In this episode of looking back, I found a chat that I have with Greg Fleet. We chatted about how we have met in Melbourne, Australia and how I was seeing Fleety as an elder in a friend's house. He reminded me how and why he stayed doing comedy ever since he had started doing comedy after peer pressure. He shares the story that he had share stage with some of the biggest comics that he had respected. I finally discuss with him about substance abuse. He describe how and what happened when he hooked on heroin and he reflects on why he stayed abusing heroin before kicking the addiction.
I have gone into the vault and managed to dig out this episode that I had with Clare Nolan.
Clare Nolan had been my lecturer for a documentary scriptwriting class. We talked a lot about talking and having a structure and formulating questions that lead to a narrative. We had different opinions when it comes to having an interview on both side of the spectrum the freeform conversation and the planning of questionnaire. Clare break down the economics and what will happen if the premise of a documentary is the same with 2 different directors which is rare. I try to look for a clear definition of what a documentary is and how reality tv has using the different techniques that had been largely prominent in documentary. Finally ending off by giving advice on how to captivate an audience with this medium of storytelling and start off in the genre of documentary film making

We have always been trying to tell our own truth, Quen Wong has always told the truth as a documentarian and now she is finally telling hers with a new full feature length documentary that she is currently producing and directing, "Some Women" which documents her coming out as a trans woman. Based on our experience working for different documentary film crews, we discuss the role of a documentary filmmaker and the meaning of telling the truth in the current media landscape and what does the truth really mean to each one of us individually.
Being a trans woman had never been easy for her in Singapore as she tells the story of how her father had reacted when she came out being a trans woman with all the baggage and stereotypes that comes along with it and she had overcome it. Quen explains how to navigate a conversation when your loved ones comes out or even outed as someone from the LGBT community.
