Out on Lake Crescent in July of 1940, fishermen come across the body of a woman wrapped in blankets floating on the surface. The body was a startling sight to behold as a strange chemical process had turned her flesh into a soap-like substance and her what was left of her face had made her virtually impossible to identify. Meanwhile, 3 years before, Hallie Illingworth, a waitress at the Lake Crescent Tavern had disappeared around Christmas time in 1937.
