It's that time of year again. The one where the motivation is low and the need to escape is high.
We also share our favorite tips for surviving when the sun isn't shining!
Sometimes genres aren't specific enough. Sometimes you're looking for a "fake dating" book, or a "magic school" book, or a "goes to a ball and has to have a knife against their thigh while they dance with their crush who is also their enemy" (we really mean specific huh) and we are naming our favorite tropes and the books that go PERFECTLY with them! Let us know what tropes you're obsessed with!
This series was honestly the BEST series we've read in years, and we aren't saying this lightly. WE'RE EMBARRASINGLY OBSESSED.
This week we talk about our favorite reads of 2020! We talk about "Serpent and Dove" and just how much we love how crass Lou is. How "Boy Next Story: A Bookish Boyfriends Novel" gives us the happy ending we all desperately wanted in little women with Jo. We touch on just how draining toddlers can be.. imagine Disney world with a 2 year old.. And we get into what we can't WAIT for in 2021: "Namesake" the second book in the "Fable" series, and "Realm Breaker" an exciting new novel from Victoria Aveyard!
We have a straight-up TREAT for your ears this week. We brought on one of our favorite slam poetry writers and he shares some of his deepest (and also romantic) ones. We dissect them and share the embarrassing Facebook posts full of *angst* and discuss the power of writing to tell a story in such few words. Honestly, this was so much fun to record- listening to emotional ballads and leaning into word choices and backstories- OOOPH it's meant for the nerdiest of ears. So many thanks to Justin Jacobson! His writing is so powerful and we're so grateful to have him on.
This week, we're doing a throwback. Like August 1847, when things were a little simple and the Bronte sisters were out conquering the world. We discuss some of our FAVORITE titles from over fifty years ago, and discuss the best parts of the novels. We talk about The Importance of Being Earnest, Jane Eyre, Rebecca, Anne of the Island, and Girl of the Limberlost. If you're looking for a cozy read that you can literally download for free in ten seconds, these books are full of mystery, drama, and sheer hilariousness. Get ready for it!
You should join our book club! We've got a facebook group and Instagram dedicated to loving up our followers! Get over there!
In this episode, we laughed so hard, Celine literally stopped breathing.
We bring our British friend, KatieElizabeth_Reads on to discuss books! (I mean, what else!) We played the game of "If you liked this book, you should read this book," and it became our new TBR for the week. Katie also shares one of her embarrassing stories that we will forever treasure- when she wrote fan fiction about Harry Styles and suddenly 200,000 readers were subscribing to her angsty, sensuous stories that she could only write as a fifteen-year-old with minimal romantic experience. (Katie made us put this disclaimer: Harry: If you're listening to this, this was strictly for writing experience and to break it into the publishing world. She's not obsessed with you. You can still date her and not worry that she's going to watch you sleep.)
Join our Facebook group and IG community! We love it when you share the books you're reading with us and let us know what parts made you laugh!
This week, we wanted to share the books that made us really see how beautiful and incredible the world and people are. We share the books that taught us so much, and then (because you know we didn't want to get TOO serious lol) we shared the weirdest breakups we've ever had and it's a JUICY one! The books we discuss: Wild, The Hiding Place and A Man Called Ove. The Novelbound Community is on Facebook and Instagram! Come join us and tell us what you thought about these books and what books have changed YOUR perspective! If you leave us a review, we will LITERALLY LOVE YOU FOREVER.
Ever had a book that you never wanted to stop reading? That brought you back to a perfect time and feeling? Anna and Celine share a hint at the episode THEY COULDN'T RECORD BECAUSE *HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL THE CONTENT THEY TRIED TO COVER ENDED UP BEING SO INAPPROPRIATE* and discuss the books that they come back to again and again.
We couldn't dish about these books enough and will be making a few more of these episodes to give you some books to read during Christmas and Wintertime. All of these books have incredible imagery and worldbuilding, amazing characters, and unique storytelling that we are DYING for you to read. (But like, seriously .... CHECK OUT THESE BOOKS ALREADY!)
The best books have the best villains. Villains make the character's story so much more powerful and keep us hanging on the edge of our seats. We share our favorite characters we love to hate, ranging from old classics to new YA Fiction. It's gonna be a good one, y'all.
