Today is November 30
Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
Take a moment and quiet yourself. Take a deep breath. Welcome God’s presence. And say, “Come Holy Spirit.”
Today’s reading is from the gospel of John, chapter 1.
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”
They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Think about all that lies underneath the phrase, “come, and you will see”. Do you think, if the disciples had ANY idea what that meant for the rest of their lives, that they would’ve followed Jesus so quickly? Have you responded to Jesus invitation to come and see? Where has it taken you? What have you seen because you’ve responded to that call?
As you listen to the passage again, look back and consider what it was about Jesus that first drew you to him? Was it something that you learned, something that you heard, something that you saw in someone else? What was it that caused you to “come and see?”
The early church was filled with people who had encounters with Jesus, that were so life-changing, that their first reaction was to grab a friend and introduce them to Jesus as well. When was the last time you shared with someone else the story of your first encounter with Jesus? Ask God to give you even an opportunity to invite someone else come and see what you’ve seen? Perhaps there’s someone who might be well served by a warm-hearted invitation to church this Advent season, or to join your small group? Ask God for an opportunity to say, “come and see.”
